Sounds a bit like the HDD is failing - also gives an excuse for the loss of data if it's on the way out! Do you any other 2.5" drives about to try?

The machine eventually installed some fonts, which I know is usually the last login script, so even though it stayed on the same 'running startup scripts' for another 10 mins, I finally turned off the thing.

When I switched it on again it started installing all the rest of the software. Goodness knows why!

I sat and watched it and all seems well. Let's hope, shall we? I am pleased it works but I really want to know WHY?

At my other school apparently no one could logon to the network until about 10.30am - but now everything is fine and there is nothing in the event log to say what was going on....

 

Ah well, half term is upon us. Both my boys are home for the weekend as it is the younger one's birthday. I get to take him shopping on Saturday and then we are having a family birthday tea. So that something to look forward to!!
