Weekend away

Looking to have 3 nights away starting Thursday 25th November, potentially looking at Lake District area, been looking Windermere, can anyone recommend anything?

 

There is a new Premmier Inn at Kendal but would like to make it a little bit of a more special weekend some where other than a Premmier Inn.

I would have suggested Lake District Hotels: Newby Bridge Hotel had i seen this thread earler - beautiful hotel, all mod cons, pool.

 

Me and the wife went for our first anniversary a couple of years back.

Depends what you're after... cosy B&B? I always use Farmhouse Holiday | Farm B & B | Farm Stay - had a few great places off there, no real "misses" so far. I hate chain hotels - prefer to take a risk!

If you had a good lot of cash to lavish... Hotels in Lancashire Country House Hotel Small Luxury Hotel is very nice, but only peripherally near the lakes

Here Gilpin Lodge - Luxury Windermere Hotels, Lake District, Country House Hotel, Cumbria or here Michelin Star Restaurant - L if you want a REALLY special outing and you like good food and have plenty of spare cash...or here The INN AT WHITEWELL - not the Lakes - but close by at the underrated Trough Of Bowland - see the Outside pictures section - very pretty part of the country.

they have some great deals on secret hotels there all 5 star but really cheap it will tell you what area it is but not what the hotel is called till after you have booked although you can work out which it is if you search area and 5 star hotel usually on google by description i have used secret hotels all over the uk and they have always been really nice and special

OK, don't go to Kendal if you are to visit the lakes as it isn't really anywhere scenic, or even Windermere (too touristy) if you can avoid it. If you have time I would recommend either here: The Pooley Bridge Inn, English Lake District accommodation situated beside Lake Ullswater or somewhere in the Kesick area. The main problem is that if you don't know where you are going it takes an age to get anywhere, especially if you've ravelled a distance to get there. And if you are after a little 'fun' try a drive up Hardknott and Wynott pass. It's a rather intersting little road:

 

 

Oh, and buy some gingerbread in Grasmere if you can. It's rather morish

Goddamn! I'm in the Lake District from the 25th for my honeymoon, missing the beer festival by 9 days makes me a sad panda. Not made it to any others for various reasons this year, either, so that would've been good. Ah well

 

For what it's worth, missus and I really enjoyed Kendal as a "town" day out - good bit of shopping etc. Penrith is a dive, though, avoid like the plague.

 

Any other suggestions for things to do round the area greatly appreciated, especially if they involve ale

Seconded - thats really good fun - I did it when there was still a little snow down and nearly wet myself on the downhill bit.

In reply to powdarrmonkey I know it was quick but I also had a few people not on here looking for places for me and I found that one and got a good deal so booked it. Will be looking to again if the weekend we go is ok, will look at the places that have been posted.

Westmorland CAMRA ale and cider festival in Kendal tonight. Some great acoustic music (traditional) and I discovered two new beverages!!! I'll quote from the programme: 1. Cider. Solway RAC (cask cider......infused with rum ..... 7.5%) and 2. Foxfield Brewery "Perfect Disaster" Strong Ale. Approx 11% !!!!!!!! Think I'll have no problem sleeping tonight!!!

Well its here, we are travelling to Windermere this afternoon and will be an interesting drive but it will be a good weekend away from everything.
