3G mobile broadband...

Simple question, can I stick my 02 PAYG sim (with unlimited data for 12 months) into a USB dongle and whack it into my router (3G enabled)?

 

Or is there more to it?

Yeah this will work, providing it is Setup for DATA which you said it is then it will be fine. obviously if you can browse from the dongle itself, then plugging it into the router will be easy as pie :-)

Almost, its an iPhone PAYG sim that was a mandatory purchase with my iPhone4 even tho I stuck my contract sim in.

Hmm, I'm not so sure then as it may have to be on a specific contract plan for 3G access via a Dongle (might be wrong)..

I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that o2 will be aware of what device is being used with the SIM. In the same way that you can't use their unlimited SIM cards in one of these mass texting systems.

i always thought o2 terms said that mobile phone sims were not to be used as any sort of tether or modem for another device, it was only to allow the mobile phone it is inserted into access to data.

i'd check that. and also, remember o2 unlimited data isn't unlimited, it's about 500mb i think

I see that this thread is a bit cold now, but I thought I drop a question in case you are still on tune (sure you are!)

I'm moving house and BT will not install my much needed broadband till somewhere in March!!!! so I was thinking getting a PAYG 3G modem for a month or so, question I have is that I have dyndns and RDP enable on my pc, so I can access it using RDP from anywhere I want, find this very useful when at work as I can access my pc and check mail or even test websites outside of hte filter policy in force in the school.

Does this PAYG 3G give you an IP address to map to my dyndns, like with a BT router? it should do, shouln't it?
