RM win 7 slate = ipad ?

RM have got a windows 7 slate computer that is cheaper than an ipad and may be a nice way of taking electronic registration ?

Indeed. Pegatron also makes the EXOPC Slate and a few other Windows 7 slates. They also manufacture the IPad.

 

I preordered the EXOPC slate, so I will find out in the next two weeks (ships the 18th of this month) how they compare to an ITampon/Ipad.

Yeah.. agreed in principle (we don't have lots of these in people's hands and known to be working yet).

 

My point is more Exec Tech Toy (a category they obviously both match), versus Useful Educational Tool for kids. I want more than techs saying gadget X is cool and trendy, I want to hear about real benefits for educating kids.

Right off top of my head class collaboration so if have something like Tutor on it then teacher can remote to device show it on projector.

 

Device can be passed around the room.

 

An Idea group class brain storming. Working in some groups on topic maybe a project to do with fairground one group working on marketing, one group on staffing costs and one group on refreshment stands. If something that needs to be discussed at end of lesson style meeting with every one the device is passed around a discussion brain storm is created. Then this can be used for decide for the agenda.

 

That is from my head it is all about detaching person away from the workstation...

I'm still using a Windows XP RM Tablet PC as my main work computer - I think they make great tools for teachers. Anyone know if RM are doing trade-ins on their new Tablet? Has anyone ordered one yet - we've just had a couple of teachers get iPads, it'd be interesting to see how the two compare.

Btw, the RM, ZooStorm and ExoPC slates all have exactly the same specs which leads me to believe all three are actually made by Pegatron (a.k.a. Asus). There are some good

They are, well at least I can vouch for the EXOPC being manufactured by Pegatron. I have mine in hand at the moment. I recieved it about three weeks ago. The SSD in the EXO is a Sandisk P4 (32 or 64GB). According to the diagnostic tool the Crystal HD chip is the 970015. The EXO has a different touch screen installed than the other "slates" that Pegatron manufactures, but beyond that and the SSD of course, it's the same.

 

I use mine to keep myself a tad bit more mobile during the day. I have OneNote open and a web browser open to our web based help desk so I can check tickets, and such. The battery life is pathetic when compared to a tablet like an iPad, but it's not an appliciance like the iPad, it's a computer with a full blown OS. I use mine in five to ten minute sessions and let it sleep the rest of the time and that makes it last an entire day without a recharge. So the battery life doesn't much worry me.

Had a play with one of these today. It was running Windows 7 and performed quite well, would be interesting to see how they performed when built onto a CC4 network.

got one as a trial for school last week. dissapointing.touch screen was tricky to use, frustratingly so really. up against an ipad for same trial duration and have been using the ipad more and more - completly turning expectations of two devices on head.

rm felt like an unfinished job. Have been 'anti-apple' for ages but am now seeing what people are on about (for this particular test).
