Has anyone here used Threat management gateway 2010's URL filtering subscription, and if so, how much did it cost and is it working well?

I've been running an eval of smoothwall and its been pretty poor and the support hasn't been up to much either. As we're already running TMG2010 on a decent server it makes sense to use its own URL filtering rather than waste my life trying to get smoothwall to work properly.

I've seen a price of $1,499 but not sure how it would equate in £s and Educational rates?

As a happy Smoothwall Customer (and one of many on here) I would say that you must take Tom up on his offer of talking to him, nothing Ive found has the power, potential and support of Smoothwall and its products. Give him a call and I am sure he will help resolve issues you have had.

Hi, first time poster, long time lurker.

We use TMG 2010's URL filtering and we find it to be very good. We replaced our old Surf Control and ISA 2006 in the summer and so far it's been much easier to manage having it all on one piece of software.

Do you find the category filter to be quite accurate then? A lot of them seem to seem to allow a few proxy sites through - including smoothwall.

I've wasted plenty of time trying to speak to smoothwall thank you

Goldenwonder - I am not sure who you are so i'm not able to look up any support history you may have had. I would still like to hear about any problems you had (if you don't mind), regardless of wether you move forward with us or not - especially proxies sneaking by!!

Can you tell me where you bought the license? And how much it cost (if you don't mind!)

The URL categorisation is actually very good. It is updated several times a day from MU or your own WSUS if you have one.

I'm not sure about the licensing I'm afraid, the manager takes care of it. I do know that it's part of our Campus agreement which we get through Pugh.co.uk.

Thanks, I've been testing the URL filter and seems to work well apart from the annonymizers category which has let through a few of the typical 'Glype' ones (such as carrotcrunch etc) - whether thats because I'm running an evalation URL filter or not I'm not sure.
