Please accept my apologies for this interpretation to the service but I am not sure I can go through two more days of this. Please can we have giants win tonight...

Just for those thinking what heck are you talking about. We are talking about baseball..

Giants, Padres and Braves are fighting for NL West title and wild card entry and a place in the postseason. All the Giants need to do is win against Padres once and they have got the NL West Title.

If this bad for the fight for postseason entry and Giants end up in it I am not sure I will make it through the next month.

If want to know all the possible combos this article puts is across very well

this for me is the most likely outcome...

If the Padres and Braves lose, the Padres would travel to Atlanta for a one-game playoff Monday to determine the Wild Card entry.

it's incredible to think that such a long season [162 games!] goes down to the last game to decide three playoff places.

Well looks like they where reading here as they did it :) Few days rest before it all begins again for right to be in the world series.

It makes me laugh that they call it the world series, when its only teams in the North American Continent that stand a chance of getting in, as no other countries professional teams get invited!

IIRC it's to do with originally being sponsored by a newspaper called The (New York) World.

We call it "Rounders" around these parts!!!!!!

breaths

Trust me when they pitch at over 90 miles an hour this isn't rounders...

Origins same but as it is the games quite different really.

On note of American football interesting that most uk rugby players who have tried American football. Comment how much harder American football is and how they are hit lot harder than in rugby.

Proven fact, they only hit harder because of the padding. Without it permanent damage is caused. They did the testing on ballistics gel dummy's on Mythbusters a few years ago, and shown that without the padding, pound for pound, rugby is by far the tougher sport as it is continuous hits and has next to no padding (Scrum caps and the occasional shoulder pad being the exception). A fan in the USA asked about it, and they got the USA Captain of the Rugby team (who was a former NFL Football player) to do the testing on the dummies. Also the padding absorbs a whole tonne of power.

difference in wording.

Without padding, if they hit as hard as they do, permanent damage IS caused

With padding, permanent damage CAN be caused.

without padding they probably wouldn't hit as hard as they do.

You could possibly apply a similar argument to pro boxing. Without 10oz gloves would you have fights going 12 rounds and fighters receiving the same amount of blows to the head from the larger, padded equipment ?

without the same type of 'padding' the sports arguably adjust to a different style of play/competiton, and so rules would probably have to change aswell.

In american football people often lead in with the head = broken neck if no padding. The padding is there because they hit harder. Rugby is still a tougher game overall, plus its much more exciting as it flows (no pauses while they sub the entire team).

Baseball is the single most boring sport I have ever watched.

I like baseball for the statistics! I am a maths geek! :D

I am actually trying to work out a formula for if players are doping, as there averages go down as the season progresses, compared to those that don't whose average stays roughly the same.

haha makes sense. I went to watch a game in Oakland (oakland somebodies versus somebody else...it was a big game apparently). There was a guy in front of us filling in a sheet with all the details of the game, and working out batting averages and all the rest. You ever been to Oakland nephilim? :p
