Just had a msg from Vodaphone that I've nearly exceeded my 500M month allowance and that it will cost me £5/month/500M.

So I need to find out what's using the data - i thought i'd seen somewhere on my Desire to show what apps been using what but I can't find anything - did I dream it or is there something?

regards

I use 3g watchdog to monitor how much usage I'm using (not a lot as I am in range of wifi 80% of the time), unfortunately it doesn't tell which apps are using it, but it might help track it down. I think what you were thinking of was the battery usage monitor which is very detailed on the Desire.

As has already been said, I also use 3G watchdog to keep an eye on what I use, but fortunately don't have a capped data plan yet (FUP policy applies though).

I've not seen anything that will give you a break down of every app/widgets' usage. It's worth looking at all of your widgets and apps and see what the update intervals are. I use my phone alot (wifi hotspot, Maps, Navigation, etc etc), but have never really exceeded 450MB. I don't have many widgets which need a regular internet connection, but the ones that do like, weather and news widgets, they only update every other hour or so.

On my Galaxy S there is a tool for the battery and it tells you what is using your battery up so maybe that is what you were thinking of?

The main change I've done recently is to add spotify so that's going to have used some data up.

Also I've been reading a lot of pdf quotes via email recently.

And I've let a lot of apps autoupdate (obviuosly a bad move - I'll need to find how to reverse that option)

Since installing 3G watchdog an hour ago - it says I've used 0.7M!

So if that's my background rate - I'd use up my allowance just with that!

And maybe I'ver been using GB each month but Mr Vodaphone has just decided to start capping?

And I I had a quick look on my vodaphone online account but can't find where to find out about data usage :(

Not doing well really :(

Pretty much spotify will blow your data away in high quality mode if you dont use offline sync when on wifi.

My voda contract is 1gb per month but it was a recent sign up.

Spotify sounds like the culprit tbh, there are some apps on the market that monitor and report back which apps are using what, but i dont use them so cant report back. T-mobile has 3gb FUP that suits me. :-)

3g watchdog isa handy wee app tho! I regarly go over 400mb/pm, but I do use the internet a lot :-/

It turned out that the warning msg was sent at 350MB so no need to panic!

However, there doesn't seem any way to monitor the data usuage for the current month via text or web site so I'm hoping the 3G watchdog prog will be acccurate enough.
