HP Laserjet 1022 32 bit server, 64 bit client.

I've got a HP Laserjet 1022 (USB version, not networked) which is shared from Windows Server 2003 which is 32bit. Everything is fine if I print from a client with the 32bit drivers installed but if I print to it from Windows 7 64 bit with the 64bit drivers installed the print job just sits in the queue. Restarting the job or cancelling it does nothing but if I restart the printer spooler service then it comes out fine. But if I print again after that the same thing happens until I restart it.

 

I've tried the HP universal print driver and that just makes the printer print out rubbish. I've also tried installing the printer as a local printer on the windows 7 client and making a local port which points to the printer share but the same issue.

 

Anyone have any ideas?

This sounds very similar to an issue that I've just had at home...

 

This PC runs XP pro with a local HP 1018 laser attached. Daughter's new Win7 x64 laptop refused to print to it.

 

Out of desperation, I connected the printer to the laptop locally and lo-and-behold, the laptop could print. So I plugged the 1018 back into the XP PC and the laptop is now happy to print over the workgroup.

 

I wish I could promise this would work. I have the same issue with a Canon i965. Laptop happily prints with this as a local printer, but flatly refuses over the workgroup still.
