srochford Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Director of IT A very good school and what looks like a very good job.
GrumbleDook Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Just a bit too far for me ... but an interesting prospect at a very good school. Definitely one for those who also have a good track record for music / media.
featured_spectre Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 I have applied. Don't Apply, Don't Get. If I am not successful then so be it, but I have almost ALL of the qualifications they are after, as well as my current role encompasses a lot of what is asked for already. Wish me luck!
glennda Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Good Luck - give it 5/6 years and thats where i want to be!!

IanT Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Looks like a wicked job!!.........not sure If I wanna ever go down the IT Director route, I would miss the technical side too much!
GrumbleDook Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Looks like a wicked job!!.........not sure If I wanna ever go down the IT Director route, I would miss the technical side too much! I won't mince words but it is a painful wrench. If folk are looking to go down that route you need to steel yourself into the reality that you are not going to be the fountain of all technical knowledge, that everytime you get your hands dirty yourself you are interfering with the systems / processes you are trying to set up. In most fields people have to make a step into management to get more money. It happens in health, police, army, education ... and there is always that nagging doubt in the back of your mind about whether you are worthy enough anymore. If you have the nack for organising things, for problem solving of any type (never mind just technical) and are a people person ... then you will have less trouble stepping into management. This doesn't mean you can't do little projects ... but always remember you job, first and foremost is a manager and leader.
