We have recently started the rollout of SIMS in classrooms. We do not map the a sims drive for the teachers, but edit the local connect.ini to point to the server. This has worked well so far, until we put out the latest upgrade. Only the admin machines with the mapped sims drive automatically upgraded. The classroom machines have an error of incompatability. How have other authorities dealt with this?

it's the "SIMSSetupsDirectory=" entry in the %systemroot%\sims.ini file that determines where they're looking for upgrades - is that set correctly on the affected workstations?

also, is the upgrade running but failing, or not running at all? if it's running but failing you may need to run simsperm.bat (in the \\server\simsshare\sims\setups folder) on each workstation to enable them to update correctly. If it's not running at all it's usually either sims.ini as I said above or shortcuts pointing straight at c:\program files\sims\pulsar.exe rather than Simsload.exe first.

On my system, that defaults to \\\\sims . . .

But, the SIMS directory, where it thinks the apps are stored is S:\sims , if the update routine wants to go there, which i guess is where it is told to download the new apps from then it might get stuck.

You could hard code that on the machine and try it, along with the other suggestions.

If you need to change any of the defaults when you run SIMSInst to install you can click on settings on the first screen to make changes, i've never done it but i guess it's there for a reason!

Not sure why you don't want to map the drive for the staff? If the permissions are correct it's not dangerous and would make your life easier.

Hopefully, pretty soon, SOLUS³ will sort out any upgrading issues.

How do I download SIMS. net on this site? I do not know how to.

If only it were that easy! You can't just download SIMS. It's restricted access.

You need to find a school that uses SIMS, then get a job that pays peanuts in the IT department. Work your way up the ranks to SIMS Manager and then request permission from the local authority or support company to download the software.

It's just to stop students trying to gain unlawful access. :sorry:
