SimpleSi Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 It seems my beloved WHR-G54 (and the DD-WRT version) are no longer available :crying: :sobbing: :verysad: I've used these very sucessfully to power classrooms of 15 laptops and I need a replacement equivalent. Has anyone bought such a item recently and has been happy with it to run a class of 15 laptops. Simon
Ashm Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 We've a bought a few of these buffalo ones - Buffalo WLI-TX4-G54HP Turbo G High Power Wireless.. | Ebuyer.com Seem pretty solid and works well with DD-WRT 1
SimpleSi Posted September 27, 2010 Author Posted September 27, 2010 If there a diff between a "wireless client" and an normal AP? Simon
Ashm Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 I think most access points have the option of being used as a wireless client. This one just has the added benefit of having a 4 port ethernet switch built in. It works fine as a normal access point. I'm thinking of using a few of them with WDS using the DD-WRT firmware.
SimpleSi Posted November 24, 2010 Author Posted November 24, 2010 @Ashm Brilliant info Just powered one up downloaded the DD-WRT firmware - ran theTFTP prog and it was flashed in 2 mins. Now works as a normal AP (instead of the basic wireless bridge mode it comes in) Mind you - good job it worked as I've bought 7 of them! Ta again (and thanks to Joe/Mark at CPLTD ) regards Simon
