pritchardavid Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Hi there Steve, welcome to edugeek! Everyone's most likely gonna recomment moodle Moodle.org: open-source community-based tools for learning But depends if you school has money to spend on it (If we are talking about a school here?) If so I recommend you look at frog vle Frog Learning Platform | The UKs most advanced Learning Platform I wanted our school to use frog, but they said it was too expensive still dont like moodle much (likely I dont have to really deal with it) Most people lik it its just me
beeswax Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 We currently use Moodle but our Managed Service Provider (MSP) is going to move us to OpenHive, and I think that if you work in a state school and you're going to have a managed service this is something you should bear in mind. We are a few years down the line with Moodle and most staff are now happy using it, their 'big fear' is the change to the new Learning Platform (LP) and will all the work they've put in to producing material for Moodle be thrown away. While I've tried to reassure them that most of it will transfer across without much hassle it would help if the MSP was a little more forthcoming in its support.
UKDarkstar Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Another Moodle user here too but if you can afford to go for Sharepoint you may want to check out this at Twynham School : https://www.twynhamschool.com/supportinglearning/default.aspx
Hightower Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 (edited) Another Moodle user here too but if you can afford to go for Sharepoint you may want to check out this at Twynham School : https://www.twynhamschool.com/supportinglearning/default.aspx Isn't that the M$ showcase school for SharePoint? If so, I'm really REALLY not impressed - thought they would have made more effort than that! EDIT: Foot in mouth moment - after a little more digging that obviously isn't their VLE my bad Edited September 21, 2010 by Hightower
difinity Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Yes. We have It's learning here at our school.
Chris_ Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Another vote for Moodle here. The fact that it integrates with AD is pretty good, unlike RM's offering that they call a VLE . I think it's based on Sharepoint also.
