She deserves education and punishment but death?! Really?!

have to agree with you guys there Death penalty should be brought back but not for cases like this Only the more serious cases (not going to write them incase you get a violation lol)

 

the woman should be punished and to never be able to have children again, thats only my opinion.

 

really bad to think that this is only one case, imagine how much this stuff is happening. you have to wonder about the social services in that country. things like this shoulndt be happening

Last time I checked, Ohio was not in this country so this probably isn't the fault of social services :-)

 

Even if it was in this country, it's not the fault of social services that a mother has no idea how to bring up her children. We read endless complaints about how the country is becoming a nanny state and yet the first reaction when something goes wrong seems to be that the nanny state doesn't do enough nannying!

 

Somehow, this mother has got to the age when she can have a baby but has no idea how to bring up that baby. How did her parents allow that to happen?

 

The death penalty wouldn't fix this any more than it would fix any other problem - there is no country in the world which uses the death penalty that has no crime. It's simply an easy reaction to say "let's kill someone who does something wrong"

Sorry - my post last night was unconsidered.

 

Gizmo2005 summed up my real feelings about the death penalty, but not about this case. The death penalty should exist but only for really extreme stuff.

 

The death penalty is obviously a very divisive issue and perhaps a can of worms I didn't mean to open. My statement was meant as a throw away comment to express my sheer disgust at this womans behaviour, but when you write things rather than say them it doesn't always come accross correctly.

 

In response to the OP and subsequent comments.

 

I don't think educating the kinds of people that do this sort of thing makes much difference. I don't work in a school full time, but you folks must know that there are certain people who will not pay a blind bit of attention to anything any teacher or person with some sort of authority tries to tell them. IMHO this doesn't change until these kinds of people reach their mid to late twenties or even their thirties, making rehab or education a non-option.

Good point about passive smoking tommej - I have a two year old boy, and I smoke. I never smoke when he is near me - in fact I never smoke when he awake. I certainly don't smoke in the house. My wife doesn't know I smoke. I feel so guilty on all fronts. Edugeek is my confession box.

 

I'm just shocked someone could do what that woman did.

It does seem like a good idea but there's research (I think it was Ian Duncan Smith I heard talking about it most recently) that shows that if you take babies away from women like this then they simply get pregnant again.

That is part of the real problem - we have people who don't think it's wrong for a child that age to smoke, drink and be wildly overweight.

 

Education is the answer but I've no idea how you do it - as you say, there are plenty of people who go through school totally ignoring everything around them and learning nothing. They then become parents and the cycle repeats.

 

The good news is that not all countries are like this so perhaps we can learn from the other countries which do seem more civilised.
