When is an Admin account not an Admin account??

When its a Vista admin account!

 

Why oh why is my domain admin account (or local for that matter) not allowed to change permissions of folders (giving me access denied)?

Try knocking the computer off the domain and putting it back on the account may be damaged. Also make sure the time is correct on the client if its more than 5 mins out kerberos will not work.

It happens on PCs on or off the domain, time is a few seconds different.

 

Open explorer with the 'Run As Administrator' option.

 

There is no option to do this, altho UAC pops up when you go to edit the security settings.

Create a shortcut to explorer.exe, then right click on the shortcut and select Run as Administrator

The owner of the folder was "trustedinstaller" a quick swap to me and all is well!

No problem, this got me badly a couple of years back when I set Redirected folders but forgot to untick 'Grant user exclusive rights' on several hundred accounts! Ooops.

This was permissions on the system32/drivers folder stopping anything being installed. Weird
