Smoothwall - Active Directory Authentication

Hello,

 

I'm currently trialling Smoothwall and I'm attempting to add out Active Directory servers has authentication. However, it keeps failing when I go back to the control tab and clicking on the run button for Verify Configuration

 

It displays that it fails on checking forward DNS. I have put the server fqdn in and it says multiple addresses were found (which is correct, as I have IPs on the server that are setup as DNS, NPS IPs etc).

 

It fails also on Checking connection to the directory server as well.

 

Any help appreciated.

Ask a Mod/admin to move this thread to the smoothwall support section here and you should get some answers there as it's more likely to be seen by smoothwall staff/users.

I think the dns name of your AD server should resolve to exactly one server - but I may be wrong on that one. See if any of the support team can enlighten us

Hi,

 

Had a support session with one of the smoothwall support team - Jason. Very helpful and he got it setup in a matter of minutes.

 

The issue was caused by having the domain name in lower-case letters after the username I entered!

Glad you got it sorted Jason is a great support guy, as they all are tbh everyone I've ever dealt with at Smoothwall is great, knoledgable and supportive and even when I've stumped them they have chats and discussion and it gets sorted efficiently

 

Back O/T, when I read this I thought I bet its capital! I think that needs to be put in the help file Tom or somewhere perhaps in the hints even as the new auth stuff is incredibly case sensitive (don't know if that is by design or "fault" or just randomness) but thats about 3 people on here in as many weeks and I fell over with that on my new LAN as well so seems to be a common issue?

Its quite straight forward after about 30 mins of playing around...Have you looked at:
