tarquel Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 (edited) Hi all Just a quick one... As of now, the beta site is open to beta sign ups: FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Test Application Site (you'll need a SE account - free to sign up - link on that page). Update: The Open Beta itself FINISHES on the 19th so get your skates on if your thinking of trying it. I'm in the Besaid world - PM me for more info as to hookin up etc. Just a FYI really, but PM me if you want to team up etc blah. Also, its worth noting that the required specs are fairly high and treat them as the bare minimum: OS: Windows® XP SP3 *1 Windows Vista® 32-bit / 64-bit SP2 *2 Windows® 7 32-bit / 64-bit *2 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo (2.0 GHz) AMD Athlon X2 (2.0 GHz) RAM: Windows XP: 1.5 GB Windows Vista / Windows 7: 2 GB Hard Disk Space: Installing: 15 GB Downloading: 12 GB on the drive containing the My Documents folder *3 Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® 9600 or higher VRAM 512 MB Radeon™ HD 2900 or higher VRAM 512 MB Sound: DirectSound® compatible (DirectX® 9.0) Internet Connection: Broadband (constant connection) Monitor Resolution: 1280 x 720 or higher; 32-bit DirectX: DirectX 9.0c Other: Mouse, Keyboard, Gamepad *4 *1 Windows XP users should install, run, and update the game using administrator settings. *2 When using a 64-bit OS, the game will run on WoW64 (Windows on Windows 64). *3 The amount of free space required on the drive containing your My Documents folder has been temporarily changed to reflect an increase in additional data not covered by the beta test installer. *4 A gamepad is recommended, but not required to play the game. There is the official Benchmark program you can use to get a idea of how great [or not so great] your machine can cope with the game. http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/media/benchmark/eu/ (there's instructions on that page on what to do with it) If anyone wants any info on setting up the beta, or has trouble downloading the client files, reply on the thread and I might add some instructions to this post as it can take forever otherwise Note: They've fixed the download servers although you may need to get some of the files first. The patcher should update first [it'll be a red background] in any case and should take care of it. Regards Nath. Edited September 14, 2010 by tarquel Updated info
GrumbleDook Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Going to give it a try (doing my 'Windows' month) but might struggle on space ... only got a smallish partition. Annoyed that GrumbleDook has already gone as an ID. Damn that pesky poker player!
tarquel Posted September 2, 2010 Author Posted September 2, 2010 I'll assume ur not on it yet, and pick a server then I'll update my first post with what server im on when I'm done. You can guess my handle i think Adios. Nath
GrumbleDook Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 In the infernal login circle ... go to the beta site to download, it asks me to login it takes me to the SE login page, it then takes me to the beta site and asks me to login. Will try again tonight.
CAM Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Tried applying last night and it said the server is down to due excess demand. Annoyed though as I applied for closed beta and didn't get an E-Mail saying "Hey! Closed beta is beginning!" And yes, definately share realm names. Can't think of better testers then techs tbh.

Will try again tonight. Yeah, I seem to be getting the same thing aswell today after signing up ? Edit: Seems to be working OK now. It might just have been pure co-incidence (or possibly server load / time taken to validate my account after applying) but it worked after I changed the path in the email link from "dev-na.ffxiv.com/" >>> "dev-eu.ffxiv.com/" (changed na to eu) Downloading just now...... GrumbleDook Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Yep, in now and going to start downloading. Might not be able to do anything for a week though as I am away on a course next week (PRINCE2) and I will need to concentrate!
tarquel Posted September 5, 2010 Author Posted September 5, 2010 Initial post updated some more - req specs etc. Interesting side note but its pretty awkward to get around from the off if your in a different city to another person you want to team up with. I've started in Gridania so if your in my world and have started in that city / town / area, give me a /tell Nath
CAM Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 I'm on Besaid too. Will PM you. Is this under NDA by the way? Forums don't work for me.
tarquel Posted September 5, 2010 Author Posted September 5, 2010 Not sure tbh. I'll have to reread everything, but being a Open Beta, im sure they wont mind this So long as we stick to what we are saying currently... but then again, its gonna release in about 16/17 days so....
CAM Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 That close?! Can't help but feel something is incomplete...
TopBanana Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 one of your techs has been emailed a Beta invite and has reported back that there are a tremendous amount of updates at the min
ZeroHour Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 I am in the beta but I have not got it downloaded yet. I have heard some pretty awful things that concern me a lot especially performance/ui is really bad and they only have 2 odd weeks to sort it. I suspect another fail mmo launch in the works....
ZeroHour Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 In case anyone didnt know the patcher is just a torrent client. If you look in my docs\my games\square enix\ff directories you will find 3 torrents you can use to download the patches. I am getting full speed using Vuze right now with then where as the patcher was very very slow.
CAM Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Tarquel, you added me but I can't see you in my list. I think friends work only one way when you add someone.
CAM Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 (edited) Kyna Black here. And if anyone works put how to send a quick reply then tell us! Oh and this game does not support keyboard and mouse. I have found you get considerably better performance from a controller and it makes the game much more fun to play plus K+M completely breaks some things like the map. Unfortunately, for a PC game this is pretty poor! Edited September 6, 2010 by CAM
tarquel Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 @ZH: Okey dokey... will add ya tomorrow (just signed off it hehe). @CAM: Hmmm... that sounds strange. Cant see why K+M wouldnt be fully supported. I'd wager some hard core folk would be religiously of that ilk and SE would be accomodating accordingly hehe I would suspect that any GUI based glitches they might not bother to implement on the open beta environment, as they've probably got them fixed in the retail environment thats apparently running parallel to the open beta. Will likely be on again at some point tomorrow night so give me a /tell if you notice im online as i'd like to see what things breaks. If you notice anything, theres a Bug Submission on the main menu somewhere tbh, i've been working out the controls as i go along, but I have got me PS3 controller hooked up and working with it Its strange they dont let us chat about issues on their "dev" forums tbh, but guess they just think everyone will fill them with rubbish etc hehe Cheers Nath.
tarquel Posted September 14, 2010 Author Posted September 14, 2010 (edited) Sorry CAM, I didnt see your other post on page one. Yes, both parties have to add each other to truely "see" each other in their lists Additional info: The patcher and SE download servers have been sorted a few days ago, so downloading through the normal patcher should work much better now [u may need to get it updated first to sort it tho] Also, the Beta finishes on the 19th so if your thinking of trying it... get your skates on Updated OP with the info and a bit of a clean up too. Nath Edited September 14, 2010 by tarquel
GrumbleDook Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I've tried to get it on my machine, but ran out of space and don't have time to rebuild the partitions, etc ... I'll have to pass on this one
tarquel Posted September 14, 2010 Author Posted September 14, 2010 Space wouldnt have been your only problem i think GD ;) I cant wait for the 22nd..... should be fun dayz.... providing i have any energy left from the start of the Win7 Refresh with us.... Nath
GrumbleDook Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 The baselining app played quite well once I had killed a few background apps. I was really looking forward to it. Oh well ... I'll wait 9-12 months until (and if) it is ported. In the meantime I can wait for WoW:Cataclysm.
tarquel Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 aww thats too bad hehe Ported? Cant see that happening later on down the line - but then again, anything's possible these days hehe. Nath
