Windows 7 - New Domain - New User - temporary profile?

Hi

 

i have just installed my new domain and having issues with my accounts - none other than my admin accounts will log onto any of my freshly installed domain added PC's...

 

they all come up with "You have been loaded with a temporary profile"

 

any clues as to what i have missed?

Some of mine did that also, I had to log off then back on again.

mine does it on every computer conected on the domain... however manytimes i've logged on and off again... i'm wondering if i've set someting in the GP - but i can't think what i might/might not have done...

Use Eventviewer to take a look in the system events.. I discovered there was a GPO set for IE branding policy that caused logons to fail on my network - but it could be any number of things - the event logs should give a clue..

I found my printer scripts caused severe problems with W7, so I moved to GPP printers.

There are now only GPs for the computer config on the default domain policy... and still only logging me in on a temporary profile with any account apart from a domain admin... any other ideas? I'll copy and paste the whole default domain GP if it helps?

Do you have mandatory profiles with your non-admin users? If you haven't set up a .v2 mandatory profile with Windows 7, it won't log on as it doesn't work with XP profiles.

its a completly fresh 2008 r2 system - no profiles for any users... i've tried making them create roaming profiles, use a mandatory and had no setting - ie local profile per machine - everytime i end up with 'you have been logged on with a temporary profile'...

Create a profile:

 

\\domain controller servername\NETLOGON\Default User.v2

 

(tip: download Windows Enabler - run this as an administrator and it 'un-greys' the option to copy a local profile)

 

Now when a domain user logs on to your domain - if they don't have a local cached profile, a roaming profile or mandatory profile - they will use the profile settings in the default user profile you created..

 

Just a thought - are you specifying a profile/path in the user account properties?

 

If you are happy with the settings in your 'default user.v2' profile - make a copy of it and call it something useful like student.v2 or staff.v2 - rename the hidden file ntuser.dat to ntuser.man - and specify the profile path in your user accounts to:

 

%logonserver%\NETLOGON\student (or staff or whatever)

In Windows Vista and above, you also need to delete the profile keys from the registry when you delete the user in Users.

 

A temporary profile is loaded after you log on to a Windows Vista-based system
