OutToLunch Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Just a quickie - in the middle of scripting a bunch of batch files to clean up roaming profiles that have got messy... Has anyone come across a Windows build of touch.exe (or any other similar freeware utility) that can handle changing the created/modified date for folders (ie the actual directory itself, not the contents)? Tried all the ones I can lay my hands on and as far as I can see nothing seems to want to behave... Cheers.
plexer Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 http://www.codeproject.com/tools/touch_win.asp Any good? Ben
OutToLunch Posted January 10, 2007 Author Posted January 10, 2007 CodeProject one - doesn't touch folders. An entire Cygwin base install just to get touch seemed overkill, especially when it may still not work. I have quite a few versions of touch.exe now which are supposedly exact *nix ports anyway and refuse to process folders or instead process the folders contents when passed a folder name as a parameter... Thanks for the suggestions though.
Geoff Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 The only thing you need to run cygwin apps is the cygwin.dll. So you can just stick touch.exe and cygwin.dll in system32 and it'll work quite happily. The full blown installer madness is just there for people who need their hands holding (One wonders about the logic of this, presumably if you know you need a *nix command line tool on win32 you can hold your own hands).
OutToLunch Posted January 10, 2007 Author Posted January 10, 2007 I realised that, I just hate the game of hunt down the incompatible versions of cygwin1.dll I have to play everytime I install something else that depends on Cygwin... Currently my Windows SSH server is cygwin based and seems to be happily running an incompatible version to the current version provided when I download Cygwin/Coreutils to get hold of Touch. Doh.
