I used to wonder what the point of us having one was, it doesn't have speakers in the classrooms, only corridors, offices, etc and never gets used......... Until the holidays and then it has some, ahem, 'testing'. Pink Floyd sounds pretty good over it!

Some of the new BSF builds seem to have them sitewide. Often used to play the sound effect of a bell etc to indicate the change of lessons. Also good when used by the reception to tell someone their visitor is here or the caretakers warning you that the door is about to be locked!

Another good way of using these systems is the PAGE feature on some phone systems, you can make page groups and play music down your handset and hear it out of other handsets, some systems only do an alerting tune though but seems I can speak down mine and thus use it as a tannoy :)

That feature gave me great amusement in my last job! Of particular joy was that there was no beep or anything before you did the page, just the voice coming out of the phone! I also had great fun changing peoples names (it was a small company!) Don't think it can be done on our LA run Cisco system.

@john: Our page feature can be used to scare people... there's no alerting tone so making ghostly noises down the phone gets quite a response.

Mine seems to play a little tune, I can probably turn that off in the system manager somewhere as well as setting up the page groups, ghostly noises down the SLT phones probably isn't a good idea and will result in more work for IT!
