My DVD drive ejects the tray when restarting and shutting down the computer. any suggestions what the problem would be? I had a look at the Device manager to see if the dvd rom driver was missing but no.. everything is fine on Device manager.

It's a long shot but have you checked that the ribbon is plugged in securely to the back of the drive and on the mobo?

i havent check that yet. but surely if the ribbon was not connected properly then the drive would have no power! isnt it?

The power connection is totally seperate from the ribbon. As I said, it's a long shot, but if the ribbon is loose or damaged, you could be getting a short. Is the drive functioning properly apart from ejecting itself?

have you tried a second dvd drive in the machine? could be some random setting on the mobo that is set to open it.

but would help to know if it works at the moment.
