ICTNUT Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Hi All, Does anyone have any links to the Admin Installs for these not the web based install. I need to push these out via GPO but for the life of me I can;t find them anywhere. And pointers gratefully received.
ICTNUT Posted December 18, 2006 Author Posted December 18, 2006 Hi All, Have been on the phone to Adobe and it seems that you have to apply for a licence to do bulk/network installs. The players are still free but you can only install under licence, once you have applied they then provide you with the links for the admin / stand alone versions without all the bloat ware that is included in the web download. Your license term is one (1) year from the date you accepted the agreement. You must apply for a new license at the end of that term should you wish to renew. As of 11/16/06, the Player Distribution License agreement has been updated to include Vista as an Authorized Operating System. Licensees who have executed an agreement prior to 11/16/06 and who now wish to Microsoft Windows Vista must execute a new agreement. I do remember having to do this a few years ago for Adobe Reader.
Ravening_Wolf Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 You need to visit Adobe.com licensing and "apply" for a free license to distribute the players across your intranet. Signing up and approval takes about 5 minutes, after which you can download MSIs of the Flash and Shockwave players. These packages can then be installed as per normal using GPOs. And unlike most packages I have tried on the network here, these ones actually work! D'oh! You beat me by a matter of seconds!
alonebfg Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 one thing i will say about this i the shockwave deployment dont work and adobe will not tell you how to do it as it breaches secuarty ?? anyone intrested say and i will post the email they sent.

Heebeejeebee Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 I'm Interested ( email away ) or is that pm away ? either way lol Me too. HBJB
alonebfg Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 ok i will post the email the sent me. Dear Mr. alonebfg(changed), After considering your issue with regards to the shockwaveplayer distribution i regret to have to inform you that we do not support this particular problem as this concerns choices of security settings at your own school. You could try to find an answer to your particular problem in the instructions which came together with the msi' or you could try to get feedback from persons at the online forums at adobe.com or visit http://www.adobe.com/devnet/ for the developers network. I wish you good luck with the issue. Yours Sincerely, Antoine van Heck Adobe Technical Support Tel: (UK) 020 7365 0735 Tel: (Eire) 01 242 1553 Fax: 0031 20 5820875 Email: [email protected] and then i tried everywhere with no luck
PiqueABoo Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 adobe will not tell you how to do it The shockwave installer works for me and lots of others. If it doesn't work for you because of your "choices of security settings" that definitely is your problem i.e. the above would be better stated as "adobe will not do your job for you".
Heebeejeebee Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 ... so does any one know what security setting is making it bork? HBJB
Ric_ Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 http://www.adobe.com/licensing/distribution/ is the link you are all looking for. You just fill in the form and away you go "distributing" flash was the search term I used on their site. The version that I downloaded, post if you are desperate to know the version, works fine... there was an issue with the version before this.
ICTNUT Posted December 21, 2006 Author Posted December 21, 2006 After downloading both Flash Player 9 and Shockwave I have published them via GPO and all works fine for me.
alonebfg Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 ok but when you deploy via gpo which is what i did it would not install even if i logged on as a administrator. so i stll have not found out what the problem is i will try the new version perhaps that might work.(by the way not getting them to do my job for me just som help would be nice by the people who make the product.)
jumpinjamez Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I'm Interested ( email away ) or is that pm away ? either way lol I need this can you email me please [email protected]
HodgeHi Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Hello all, I have the same problem as when deployed through software GPO the installation runs but when i look in the add/remove programs it is not visible and when i go to a site that requires shockwave it does not find or even load the plugin. All those that say it worked, did they edit the msi or any other "meddling"? What is the procedure they took and version number? mine i downloaded yesterday (version 10.1) and tried all day to get it to install but to no avail. I used some software to recompile the msi and it installed but still it did not run on the required site.
Heebeejeebee Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I can get flash to install but not shockwave. It keeps trying to install via GPO when the machine boots but clearly does not go all the way. HBJB
HodgeHi Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I have opened the msi file and found that the problems that plagued the previous versions have been resolved, i.e. the issue with the AppData folder variable as discussed on the appdeploy site. There does not seem to be any problems surrounding the flash player but i have not tried since it is already installed.
Heebeejeebee Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Did anyone get anywhere with this? Yeah and if so do ya fancy sending me the msi 'cos it's fubar down here. HBJB
HodgeHi Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Maybe the msi others have used could be put up for download in the 'downloads' section?? I think the license allows distribution from your own site?
