I was in my local O2 yesterday afternoon and I must admit I couldn't get either of their demo phones to show the antenna problem, even when using a key.

 

They generally have boasters in the shops so never use that as a method of determining if a phone had good reception.

They probably followed the instructions on a couple of handsets to remove the antenna from the outer casing.

So what's the general impression from iphone4 owners regarding this problem? Has anyone had any dropped calls because of it. Does it literally drop the connection altogether when it happens or is it just a case of signal quality dropping by a bar (as sometimes happens when i pick up my iphone3g TBH?).

 

I'm quite tempted by the new iphone4 but the reports of this bug are putting me off! Is it as potentiallly serious as some news sites are making it out to be or are they exagerating the fault ?

I am really tempted but this flaw makes me stop..!! I've been waiting, really tempted by the desire, then the dell streak and now I want the iPhone. Never had an iphone before so... I need to buy on Pay as you go as i'm tied down to a 18 month contract sim only... Not sure now!!

Its driving me up the wall tbh. I have not made many calls at all on the my iphone yet so I cant report on that although I def think it would result in dropped calls based on web usage. When I am browsing the web I hold the phone in the left hand to use my right hand to navigate and it consistently drops out to no signal when browsing. It happens far too often to be happy with really. Since I am in USA right now I have no been using it so much but yeh you will probably get the issue.

I guess yourself, and anyone who's just bought one, should be able to break the contract within the first 14 days and return the phone if it's that bad. The thing I don't get is that they're saying it only affects left-handed people but everyone who' right-handed holds the phone in their left-hand so this bug's going to affect 90% of buyers. It would have been less of an issue if holding it in you're right hand caused the signal loss!

 

Mind you, if nail polish or a 'bumper' case can fix the issue it doesn't sound like Apple will have too big a deal resolving the fault. Suspect it'll mainly come down to whether they're willing to publicly awknowledge the flaw and do something for existing owners beyond than telling them they're not holding it properly!

 

Think I'll move across to the 30-day Simplicity contract and hold-fire to see what Apple come back with in the next couple of weeks. I can imagine Jobs and co. will be sitting around a table in a smoke filled room discussing their options at the moment given the potential PR fallout from this

Got a maximum coverage invisible shield on mine, Not had any problems.

 

buy one get one half price at carphone warehouse, worked out just over a tenner each, lifetime guarentee and will keep my phone mint also stops those ugly fingerprints on the screen

I have one of those on my Desire, the heat lately has completely anihilated it, there's glue everywhere! And to take up the lifetime offer, I'm expected to pay postage to the US? Think I'll just bin it... On a side note, if it has a lifetime guarantee, why would anybody need 2? (Not criticising you Chris_in_Notts, just thought it was funny )

Im not suprised the heat from the Desire killed it my girlfriends HTC desire is red hot all the time for some reason, not sure if it was a design feature to make it atleast useful to keep your leg warm.

 

Another great thing about the Desire that you Apple boys might not have heard of is it has the ability to make phone calls, even when you hold it!

 

The heat is down to it having a 1ghz processor on board, 4th gen iPhone will probably get hot too (if anybody can use them with the lack of data capabilities when it's in your hand lol)
