Why does IE7 display websites like this?

When I log on to a machine as a local admin IE7 works fine but if I log in on the domain I mostly (!) have youtube looking like this...

I guess that one of my GPOs is causing this problem but not sure how or why.

 

Has anyone else had anything similar.

ie8 does it as well but it only seems to happen for me when im behind a proxy

Yes, I had the problems with ie8 so rolled back to ie7.

I've been told it's a known issue with youtube and IE7 behind a proxy. We advise teachers (as students don't have access to youtube) to find the video they want on google video - usually the same content, but it works.

I thought it was the CSS being caught by the filtering, but not the page content. Happens here sometimes. It's rectified if I request a total unblock of the domain (obviously not a good plan with Youtube).

Yes, we used to see that sometimes with SmoothWall Guardian but everything should be fine as far as filtering is concerned if that's what you're using. It's almost always the CSS getting blocked somewhere. Remember if you're using SmoothWall and trying to troubleshoot blocks like this, CSS is hidden by the Web Filter Log Viewer's exclude mask so you might need to turn that off.

This just gets weirder!

You tube always renders correctly when logged in locally to the machine, so I guess that rules out the proxy server.

I diasbled all GPOs to a user and logged in to the domain but that user still had the problem.

What else, other than GPOs, is applied to a user logging on to the network as I assume that whatever that is must be causing the problem!

Sometimes disabling GPO's does not work as the registry is tattooed. For some settings you have to reverse the setting in GPO, let it apply, and then disable the GPO.

Used to see that happening to - have moved schools now so don't know if its still a problem.

My only thought that maybe it was our web filter/cache (behind a proxy there too).

I have had similar in the past, Yahoo being the offending website in that case. What I found out was (we are using Cachepilots) was to allow 'Content Server' within the global list and after that, it displayed correctly.

i had a similar thing in facebook, had to add the css link to the firewall maybe try adding ytimg.com to be allowed in the custom filters ?

 

if i get sites like this i check the source and the css url

I personally dont mind the way that it looks like this...
