Doesnt it say on the smoothie box / update page what each is for? Or do you mean read about them in greater detail?

You can click on the title of the update as they are hyperlinks (or usually are) and that takes you to the Smoothwall site and gives you a bit of blurb about them.

I did actually ring support earlier to ask about another issue which they sorted out efficiently as always but they were quite busy so I didn't want to start asking them to describe updates.

There's quite a few to go on so I just wanted to read about them at my leisure but one that I’m interested in particular is “auth : Update 10 New - authorization v3 release gives improved performance, support for multiple directory servers and authentication methods”. We have two vlans and I wanted one vlan to use NTLM authentication and the other to use transparent so it would just log the IP or MAC. this would allow visitor to use the public wi-fi even thought they don't have a user account.

 

Will this be possible after this update?

I applied these updates last night and had a DB error after it finished.

 

A quick email this morning and a response and resolution within the hour. Hows that for support!

 

Big thanks to the Guy's and Gal's at SW.. The dual authentication looks really promising to get round a couple of niggles we have!

SmoothWall | Products » Feature Pack Updates will give you some more info but not much. Nowadays we do a continuous rolling set of improvements rather than lump them up on the existing products. FP4 was released in parts over the last few months and the authentication stuff you mention is very recent.
