Can I get at my pics/videos via wifi lan file sharing?

(left USB lead at home and need to upload to website!)

 

Downloaded Astro and SMB add on but can't see how to use it ????

 

Anyone know how or use something else?

Not the quickest method I know but you could always email them to yourself if you're desperate

Good thinking -I've ziipped them up using Astro and sent it via email but not sure if it went - phone seems to have locked up on email!

Have you not got a card reader that you can use with the microSD card inside the phone?

Might be worth looking into.

I used to carry one but lost it!

 

Reason email didn't work is that zip file was 163MB!

 

I'll just have to do them tonight when I get home.

 

But I still think we need some app to do this trick

Eureka.

 

Sussed out how to use Astro SMB - need to click on the New button to create a link to a server/share.

 

Failed to connect to my w2k3 server (said it didn't like my username/password!) but worked with the NAS box that's here at this school.

 

IF anyone gets the chance - can you try it out on your server and see if it works for you?

Works OK on both our Windows 2000 and 2003 servers. Entered domain name as the FQDN-style (school.example) and username as normal.

I'll try that - I've never needed the domain name before as I only use them as file servers but I'll see if that's the issue

I don't even understand the question - r we talking about Newcastles return to the premiership

 

I just press next next next and finish when I set them up and type in things like school and server2 when it asks for names

 

(server is reserved for my win98 machines )

 

Anyway - got it sorted - just need server name (without \\), share name, username and password.

 

The problem was it didn't like my normal "no password needed" security model

So I changed to my more secure logon "teacher" with its 26 char minimum length with complusory Chinese pictograph and its works fine

 

(The NAS box obviously doesn't have this "problem"

You said you were going to try a FQDN (Fully qualified domain name), Which is something you won't have unless your servers are promoted into a domain system such as Active Directory.

I sort of understand it (a little bit anyway)

 

Depending on what box I ticked and how awake I was at the time, I sometimes end up with an Active Directory setup - I just don't use it except to add 2 users teacher and pupil

 

I always find it strange that I can connect windows clients to windows servers without passwords but that linux clients dont like doing it.

 

(I have a similar problem with eeePCs that keep asking for a password when trying to print through a w2k3 server)

Because windows computers will automatically try to authenticate with whom ever is logged in at the time or as a guest, Where as samba isn't setup to do that.

I've found a very easy to use app called swiFTP that turns your droid into an FTP server and then you can use FTP to get at any files on the droid and transfer them to your server.
