e-Safety forum?

As I'm about to post another thread one-Safety, is it worth having a specific forum for e-safety issues. I'll use security for the time being.

I think its a good idea, but would it not be better if it was closed to only ict staff in schools. Kids can and do access this site and I dont like talking about security in an open forum.

Yes, I'd be all for an E-Safety forum seeing as I've just been 'promoted' as the staff governor responsible for doing it......

The Security forum is private and should remain so

 

e-Safety should be a public forum due to the issues and concerns.

I too think its a good idea to have a specific forum for e-Safety, having recently been put through the CEOP ThinkUKnow training thanks to your recommendation I would welcome the idea of a forum where best practices and advice are exchanged regarding e-Safety.

 

I also agree on the point that it should be a public forum especialy if its offering advice and educating people on e-Safety.

Very much so also very hard hitting I felt, especially when watching some of the videos knowing they were based on actual events. It's also scary to see how youngsters are unwittingly giving up information about themselves without even thinking about it!

 

It's really made me more determined to do something to help which is why my school are looking to get me out to local schools to offer the training.

 

Were offering it to some parents next week too but someone forgot to check the football schedule first and its been booked the day of Englands last group game

 

I was quite lucky doing the courses when I did as I got a free enrollment on to the CEOP Diploma in Online Protection and Safeguarding of Children which I think they are launchin soon and something I am looking forward to.

I will be re-doing my accreditation in September (and doing the Diploma) and after recent discussion with a few others would like to back this request and see what we can do to get as many techies, teachers, governors, SLT and yes ... student representatives together. Perhaps EG is not the right place for that for *all* areas of eSafety, but it could be a good starting point.

I'm disappointed that there has been no edugeek admin comment on this - even if GD does get something off the ground, I still think we need an e-Safety forum. The posts on this subject are becoming more and more frequent.

EG admins are up to their necks atm, what with the trip to Denver for DB and ZH, and RD and R_ are probably just waiting for a chance to have a good chat.

 

I'm also waiting to find out what happens to the Becta safetynet mailing list too ... people are really not sure what is going to continue with a number of the eSafety resources out there ...

Sorry as Tony said since conference we have not stopped yes in princple I think sound idea. Once every certain people finished having jollys to denver.... me and ric not bitter at all .. Got to have a good chat and can make a decision.

Oh yes! The film with how the young guy (not stereotypical Paedophile) collects info on the girl is very good for getting the message across to staff as to how much info they give away as well. I've signed up for the ambassador training in January (nothing sooner round here!) - can you now sign up the diploma?

From what I can see the Diploma can't be applied for yet. I'm assuming it will be launched in the Autumn (but that's just a guess as it's a logical time)

 

@witch; I think there are any many of of us on here with e-Safety experience/ qualifications. Several with a great deal more than me... Grumbledook and MGS_Tech for starters - I'm perhaps noisier about it

Its currently open to all.

Wouldn't it be better under Technical Forums though? e-safety isn't a regional issue. It's up there with security and stopping the little darlings from getting into proxy and pron websites!

e-Safety is a policy issue, and the approach to it is different dependant on which country you are in, mainly due to the various laws or political emphasis ... most members will have it the same, but not all.
