chrbb Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Right decided to go for contract phone but having looked at a million deals on the internet have no idea what to go for! Anyone got a good deal recently? I'm after touchscreen, free phone, free internet and ......... a free 15" laptop!
TechSupp Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Don't know about the free 15" laptop but just got myself a HTC Desire which so far is brill, ended up with T-Mobile 600min, 500 txt, unlimited internet, unlimited landline calls £30 / month.
tech_guy Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Get the iPhone 4 on the 24th when it comes out. I am. Anyone want to buy my G1?
mossj Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 HTC Desire.... if it's anything like my G1 it will be a hardy little beast of a phone
witch Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Looking at the contract side of things - look for lots of free texts, free calls to people on the same network, free internet and not too high a monthly cost. I am on the same network as my sons and it works out a heck of a lot cheaper.
acrobson Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 I just got the following with Vodafone when I called them last week - FREE HTC Desire Handset 300mins Unlimitied Texts Unlimited (Fair USage 1GB) internet usage 18 Month Contract All for £26 per month for the first 3/4 and then £35 per month for the last couple as I asked them to price match and they very kindly did. I am amazed at the HTC Desire so far, it is awesom! Vodafones number is - 08080 408 408
chrbb Posted June 13, 2010 Author Posted June 13, 2010 Done the deed - LG Cookie - orange free texts, unlimited texts, 500mb mobile internet, free lenovo laptop. £25.00 month Coming tomorrow apparently!
featured_spectre Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 shocking behaviour! LG Cookie is rubbish! lol HTC Desire - 600 mins, unlimited txts, "unlimited" data, free o2 to o2 txts and calls (which do not come off the allowance), free landline calls 6pm-6am £35 a month 1
chrbb Posted June 13, 2010 Author Posted June 13, 2010 :)It'll do me fine! I'm a typical middle aged Mum with a phone that's so old anything will be an improvement:D
BlackBoxIT Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I know all the hype is for the HTC Desire at the min but I just looked at Acer's new smartphone running Android , looks great Home http://www.acer.co.uk/acer/wr-resource/3849881804/upload/E0Entity3/1/img_ferrari2.jpg
fafster Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I'm after a new Android handset, but I'm really torn as to what I want. Do I get the Desire, because everyone else is? Or do I get a Galaxy S, because of the amazing specs? Or do I keep my G1 for the moment and just wait for something else to come along....

I'd give it a month or so, with Android 2.2 (Froyo) on the scene, I reckon new and improved devices are on the way (which is irritating as I took out a 2 year contract on the Desire just before 2.2 was officially announced and now there's now guarantee I'll get to use 2.2!)

You might get 2.2 between now and August. Clicky Link 1
featured_spectre Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 thing is, upgrading android wont be the hardest thing in the world!
CHR1S Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 iWas going to say the new iPhone but its starting to look like a poor option! With the new "unlimited" data plans you are forced onto and the quite absurd 24 month contract you have to take just to get a reasonable monthly payment and the charge for the phone I am being swayed away. If I was in a position to change now I would be getting my grubby mitts on a sim only contract with true "unlimited" data before they are all phased out and getting my next phone sim free Or getting a decent contract with a terrible phone and all the trimmings thrown in for free (like chrbb and the laptop) and selling it to buy the phone sim free
Enigma Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Personally, I think the new Dell Streak looks fantastic. Ok, so you wouldnt dare be seen in public, holding it up to your face. But the specs are great and has a nice big screen!! Only problem is that its only available on O2 at the mo. BUT, having spoken to a Dell representative, I hear its due out on Dell's website on the 29th. Hopefully for what they'll be charging, it should be unlocked.
