I have just installed 2008 on a HP DL380 G6 and before it was on the domain i couldnt even hear it was one, but now on the domain, the fans are constantly running on high.

Is this normal? The server isnt doing anything, even when sat at logon, the fans are so load.

Thanks

Tim

Did you use the SmartStart disk to do the install?

If not, download and install the proliant support pack - we've seen this when the machines not got the full set of correct drivers

We have some DL380 G5s and they are reasonably quiet (as quiet as you can expect a big server to be) once booted up. The fans really kick in as soon as the server is switched on for about 20 seconds but then quieten down considerably. Is the server in an air conditioned room? Have you checked the HP Systems Management webpage to check system temperature to make sure it is ok?

Upgrade the BIOS and any firmware on the server, had this with an older G3 version where the BIOS/Power Managment did not respond to the newer commands from 2008 so spool down the fans so ran at 100% the whole time till an upgrade of the firmware. Also as others have said download the latest PSP from the hp site and use that to install any drivers that it may have missed out on.

Lack of HP software somewhere Tim, I have 3 of them and they are very quiet for little servers (and 2 are in my office!) so I think somethings not quite right.
