IE7 Active Desktop Problem

I've just been working on a new laptop build and decided to install Internet Explorer 7 as part of the latest updates. Its appears to run fine. The only problem I have is with Active Desktop. We have set-up the GPO to display the school logo as a background image and locked it down to prevent students changing the image. This has now stopped working and no image is displayed.

 

I did read elsewhere on the net that IE7 has reduced functionality for Active Desktop. Anybody have any ideas.

Is the image being directed to the desktop as a web image? I.e have you linked to a URL version of the image on a web server?

 

If so maybe try attempting to direct the address to a local version of the desktop background and disable active desktop?

The image is a .jpg file located on a shared area on one of our servers. Its just pointed to that area in the GPO.

Its the only way we know to display a background image which the students cannot override with their own images. We have a different image displayed for both teachers and students.

 

If there's a better way of doing it I would love to know.

 

I also tried to have 'bginfo.exe' display login/pc details as a background image. But the students managed to override the image. :?

How about restricting them via GPO so they can't do it? On our CC3 network it is impossible for kids to set their own wallpaper.

 

There's a copy of all the policy setting ADM files here if you'd like it and are running a vanilla network. (3.9MB)

Just been reading about this on another forum.

 

Seems someone else had the same problem and all they did was rename the image file to desktop.jpg and changed the group policy to refelect that and it worked again.

Add the server that your picture is hosted on to the trusted site.
