We have recently upgraded our IP Subnet so we have the following range;

10.35.68.1 - 10.34.70.254

We basically have done this so all of our CCTV is on the range 10.34.70.x

Our main Server is IP 10.34.68.11

Our CCTV Server is IP 10.34.70.2

We can get our server to ping out cctv server but my office computer or any computer to that fact cannot ping it or gain access to it.

My computer information as follows;

Ethernet adapter Admin Connection:

  Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
  Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E
 Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20)

  DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
  Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
  Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::ddcb:ab11:30dd:48d4%11(Preferred)

                                      10.34.68.1
  DHCPv6 IAID . . . . . . . . . . . : 234890269
  DHCPv6 Client DUID. . . . . . . . : 00-01-00-01-13-75-AE-B6-00-24-1D-D5-9D-98

  DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.34.68.11
  NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled

Does anyone have any ideas at all?

Im confuzzled..

What's the subnet for the CCTV system (may sound like a silly question but just to double check)? Can you ping the server from your PC? Have you tried temporarily disabling the firewall on your PC and pinging the CCTV system?

This is the ipconfig for CCTVSERVER;

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

  Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
  Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom BCM5708C NetXtreme II GigE (NDIS
VBD Client)
  Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-1C-23-BA-B8-1C
  DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
  IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.34.70.2
  Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
  Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.34.68.1
  DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.34.68.11

Yeah ive tried the firewall issue. Ive tried on XP, Windows 7. I can remote in to CCTVSERVER through SERVER though.

Clear the arp tables on both machines and intermediate switchgear. Failing that, it smells like something is doing some layer 3 filtering (do you have ACLs on any switches?).

You're subnet seems fine to me. 255.255.0.0 means your network is 10.34.0.0 - which means 10.34.1.1 can talk to 10.34.90.2 if you wanted to.

LOL didn't notice the current SNM! So yes, that should be fine as Hightower stated.

Does your CCTV stuff have a list of 'allowed' IP addresses? It may be, for security reasons, it only allows certain IPs to connect to it. Take a look in the management software and see if there is any place you can add the IP for your computer.

The server allowed me to connect to it when it has an IP of 10.34.68.180. But I wanted all CCTV to be in the range of 10.34.70.x as we have a lot of cameras now.

Nothing has been changed on it at all. Its really odd.

RDP, I normally use the IP but neither the server name (cctvserver) or 10.34.70.2 works :(

But i cant even ping it;

Another strange thing just happened. I tried to ping it through the server name (which didnt work previously)

Ping statistics for 10.34.70.11:
   Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
   Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

As you can see it worked.. I then tried RDP, it worked....

Literally 2mins later.. i now cant RDP and...

Are there any weird-looking events relating to network connectivity on the server logs? Is there any diagnostic information on the switch for that port which you can access?

I thought your CCTV servers IP was 10.34.70.2, yet when you try and ping the server name it tries to ping 10.34.70.11 - this suggests to me a problem with your DNS. Can you flush/register your DNS again on your workstation? ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns

Ok tried that..

I get on the ping an instant success then.. "Timed out"

do a tracert command to the IP. it may reveal where on the hop it is failing, also if you do ARP -a from your machine, can you see the server IP there?

There aren't any hops, the two addresses are within the same broadcast domain.
