Memory leak, reinstall server 2003?

I'm a new network manager at a school and two of our servers have a memory leak!!!!

 

I've been looking how to sort it and finding it very difficult; would a reinstall of Server 2003 solve the problem as a very last resort?

Or, at least, some crummy application running on Server 2003 has a memory leak. What is running on the servers? Are they both running the same thing, or are they both running a big mess of assorted applications?

I've been able to pin it down to my anti virus (McAfee) that is coursing the memory leak and then making the server crash.

Do you mean the virus-scanning client component or a client-updating server component? If it's simply the client causing issues, my guess is that simply uninstalling it is your best bet, or changing some settings so that it doesn't run any real-time scans but maybe just runs a scan overnight. Does the server stay up for more than a day without crashing? If so, you could get it to do a scheduled restart every night.

No, because the OS isn't the problem - the app or driver is.

 

So first fix Mcafee. What version are you running? Mcafee 8.5 Patch 8 engine 5400 is stable on 2003. Also turn off on-access scanning.
