Guest theeldergeek Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Previously, when searching on Google, you'd get a page like this http://www.neilturner.me.uk/uploads/google-offcampus.jpg ...but now, you don't get the 'UK' element, instead, you get a results page on which, down the left hand column where you then select the UK results. When did Google sneak that one in? I presume other people are getting the same?
LosOjos Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Yep same here, it seems to have been at some point last night, kudos to them for making the change without any noticeable downtime
creese Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I heard it was 'a nod to Bing'. It's been at least a day.
plexer Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I didn't really pay attention to my search results earlier but I like the idea especially having all the other options on the left as well. Ben
glennda Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I don't like it!, it appeared for me last night around 930 ish i think maybe a little later
creese Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I'm confused. What's Google? It's something that's slowly taking over the world, in a nicer way than Microsoft and cheaper tha Apples attempt. Or something like that.
LosOjos Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 (edited) I'm confused. What's Google? 1 googol = 1.0 × 10^100 = 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 Googol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Edited May 7, 2010 by LosOjos
jamesb Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 It's something that's slowly taking over the world, in a nicer way than Microsoft and cheaper tha Apples attempt. Or something like that. Although a creepier way. Microsoft just wanted all your money. Apple want to control your gadgets. Google want to know every single facet of your life so that they can sell you to advertisers who will then know as much as Google do. Are there any comfortable caves on Dartmoor? I've just realised I've somehow developed long hair and a beard along with paranoia, so should probably become a luddite hermit. 1
tech_guy Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Arrrgghhh, I'm infected - I have a google phone! Is there a cure?

I have had my Android phone for about a year and have never bought anything from an advertisement. I buy what I want from where I want. No amount of advertising from Tesco Clubcard will make be buy 10% fish fishfingers because I get 20p off, same goes for any advert.

elsiegee40 Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 If you've created the most succesful search engine and its succesful because of how it looks and behaves... why bu99er about with it? They seem to be constantly messing with it at the moment. The latest change doesn't irritate me quite as much as the fade, but much more messing and I'll be searching elsewhere.
tech_guy Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 One day, in the not too distant future, we'll sit watching Google TV, eating a Google ready-meal, on some Google furniture, in our Google mortgaged house and wonder how this has come to pass..... ...so we'll go and Google it.

Ah, I dream of such a day. I'll be able to eat my Google and Chips and watch 'I, Google' on TV.
