It sound to me as if she has a flex cable which has been manually terminated into an IEC Plug (kettle) and then ran back to an exisitng socket at low level within the room. This is ok but the company in question maybe suggesting that you have a proper 3 pin socket put in as this is best practice.

We've has as described by western done in the past at some point, it's terrible and they are connected using crimps. Very bad Practice
