Projector Remotes

In the last week a load of our projector remotes have been nicked, guess its for the laser pen on them.

 

We've worked out that since the staff wont now turn the projectors off manually as its far too difficult we will need to replace them or risk the bulbs losing life.

 

Does anyone know anywhere that sells them? Sanyo ones mainly but also hitachi and epson

We ordered two ages ago from Promethean - where we got the projectors from originally... £65 each. I rang recently for a quote (presuming they may have come down a bit since) still £65 - we didn't order this time - staff are sharing remotes. I seem to recall someone posting recently that the cheap universal ones you get from Aldi and the like can be used, as long as you still have an original you can program from.

I posted a thread a while back about replacement remotes. We had the Sanyo Pro-X projectors which some of our teachers managed to lose the remotes to.

 

We went through the people who supplied our projectors (who in turn Promethean supplied) - a company called Tracline - who got us replacements for the Sanyos at £45 a pop.

 

Now the staff have been made to sign for them to state that they will look after them and the dept will bear the cost of any replacement...

 

We did think about using the 'learning' remotes, but they may actually be more attractive to thieving fingers as they'll be universally usable.

Do you have at least one of the correct type of remote that works.

 

If you do Aldi used to sell a programable remote for about £20. Have a look next time you are in. I think Chris Bryers put me onto it a few weeks ago.

Urrrgh. Kids pinching remotes. Sooo many have been pinched here.... and it's 40 quid a pop with these Sahara projector remotes.

 

I tell you what though it's a good idea with these projectors that they have these removable security panels (much like a car stereo), although when there's a power cut around school we have to go round all those projectors in school to turn them on. Still, I believe it's cut down on break ins.

 

Sorry, strayed from projector remotes there. Wanted to voice my annoyance for kids stealing remotes.

Whoever i get remotes from the despatch note always comes from mAVerick. You may be able to go direct.

Even though they aren't listed on company websites http://www.misco.co.uk and http://www.theitindex.co.uk can usually source them if you speak to an account manager. I got a Sharp XR-10S remote £19.55 from Misco and could get Epson ones for 34.18.

They are a rip-off though, I'm thinking of getting a long stick for the teachers instead - that would be better value for money.

 

I looked for that programmable/universal remote but couldn't find it. That sounds like a great solution. If anyone gets a link they can post that would be great. Maybe we could do it as an a-level design project!?!

Tried to do something about this a while ago myself.

 

I found myself at B-ham university for one reason or another a few months back and realised they had overcome the problem of remotes being casually 'lost' by fixing a metal plate to the wall that has two holes on either side of it and fixing the remote to this via a cable tie going through the two holes.

 

Not a bad idea essentially, but they had cunningly stuck a piece of paper in the corner of the room directly above it to bounce the signal to the projector. So bit of a botch job.

When I discovered that BenQ remotes are tied to one projector only I thought something like this might happen.

What I have done is use a backup tape plastic box as a case,

Cut some foam to fit directly inside

Cut away some foam for the remote to fit.

Cut holes in the box for the buttons to go through using a saw

Stuck together and Sealed using a cable tie in the middle and a Keyring on the corner.

 

This was then attached as a keyfob to the room key.

Edit: now with pics. You could probably acheive a better finish with more than a hamfisted minute.

When I used to work for the hospitals, this used to be my solution to people stealing remotes and keys.

Funny this should come up but IU also am looking to order two replacements for our Hitachi CP-S210 projectors. Found these sites on the web and they have the remote but not sure about their credibility?

Trouble is that some of the projectors for schools don't have any controls on them but you have to use the remote for everything.

Please pleae can someone post where you can get Sanyo or Generic remotes from as Promethean are very expensive..

 

The remotes are going missing and these stupid orange projectors have no power switch..

 

Who's bloody brilliant Idea was it to have a projector with no on off button...

Our orange projectors (Hitachi) have a two-state rocker on/off switch on the side - what sort are yours?

invest in a pixie controller. get them in areas where you have problems and problem solved. they can be reprogrammed
