Save straight to Moodle from Office!

Mr Fleming has made another fantastic announcement on his blog at Microsoft UK Schools : Launch Announcement - New Moodle Integration for Office

 

Basically, the plugin allows 'educators' to save straight to Moodle or open from Moodle via a nifty little Office plugin.

Sounds pretty good to me. I take it you need to install something on Windows to get that on the menu. How would you deploy this across AD?

Visual Studio 5 has to be installed, but that is done as part of the overall install of this module. Nothing is installed on the Moodle site, apart from the My Courses block. This is all installed on the teacher's machine and you then get a couple of options in, for example, Word, which are Download from Moodle, and Save to Moodle. Selecting either of these from the Office button will bring up a dialogue which will ask for the url of your Moodle and your username and password.

I've tried it and it works (after a little messing). It's a little basic at the moment.

thanks will give this a whirl - it doesn't say it has to have Visual Studio 5 installed in the blurb though

I dont have VS5 installed on either Moodle or client machine. I just installed the app on a client, guess it may have been embedded in there, open up Word (Office 2007), and it is there in the menu.

It also requires the user to be a member of the administrators group to install which is pants really as none of our teachers could be trusted with such access rights.

 

Would be better if MSI but then again cannot expect miracles overnight eh.
