Hi

Does anyone on here have a classroom based on Acer Aspire Revo devices?

If so which model and are they any good for use in a classroom environment? We are looking to replace a disaster of a thin client implementation with these 'nettop' devices and would like some opinions!

Googlemad,

What thin-clients were you using ?

Has your experience definitely put you off "all" thin clients ? That would be a shame as thin clients do vary enormously from different manufacturers.

- before you throw in the towel with thin clients could we convince you to trial an M80. It will wiithout question be very different to whatever you have used previously... (and we can put you in touch with many happy Edugeeker's who successfully use Axel devices....)

Sun Ray 2 based clients.

We use a Novell network and have a SAN causing us a headache at the moment - Basically our infrastructure is too flaky for us to even consider more thin clients at the moment!

We're wanting to try the 'nettop' devices as they offer a local experience but then in a few years will still be more than powerful enough down the line to convert into thin client devices!

We rolled out 45 of those across the Physics and Biology Labs a few months back. They were they Revo 3610's. No complaints yet, and sit nicely behind the TFT, so out of the way for experiments etc. Mind you, we'll be using these as VDI clients after the Summer break, along with a further 100 devices of some description....

We're currently testing the Revo 3610's and finding them more than up to the tasks students and teachers throw at them.

We have a room full of 3610's. They are great: fully capable of running all of the software we need to use, as well as being very quiet, which gives us a nice working environment.

We have a few of the Aspire Revo R3610s as thick clients, and they work surprisingly well...they even run Photoshop CS4 without *TOO* much moaning. To be honest they do have the 'Dual Core' Atom processors, that may have something to do with it, but they're brilliant machines. I have experimented with using them as thin clients too, and they're great. Supplied with their own VESA mountings, screw onto the monitor in seconds and you're away.

Highly recommended.
