streaming video on data projector

usual setup = mitsubishi data projector (celing mounted) connected to windows2000 pc. when i try to show windows media clips from bbc ( or any streamind source) the clip plays on the screen ok but the clip does not display on the IWb. sound is ok. And the wm menus and title bar still appear. any ideas.

 

also how do you clean the filters on the projector?

Media player is using the video accelerators hardware overlay for the video. It's a form of DRM/copy protection. Switch the primary display to be the projector.

What make of graphics card are you using and also what drivers and software?

If you go to performance within tool/options of media player you can drop the video acceleration down a notch and it will genreally show video on computer and through projector at same time.

If you turn off Hardware acceleration this can fix it (this works in MS media player, some of the others tend to have this fixed at on so you'll have no luck but with MS you should be alright!)

It should work if you are still using 2000 (WMP8 or 9 is probably installed on it)?

It's not their fault. The issue is that you can screen grab video frames from the video memory and therefore rip DVDs (very slowly) and avoid cracking the copy protection system. Obviously this is a DMCA violation. So MS doesn't want to get sued.

 

The way to solve this is to use the hardware overlay of the graphics card. There is no way to extract usable video frames from the hardware overlay.

thanks all. i will check all these things out tomorrow. the snag is i work in a school in moscow, and whislt the card is a nvidia all the instructions and menu ots are in russian.!

if you had a mac you could just clone the display and have the mac and the projector playing back a dvd at the same time

Not really solving the problem but you could use a VGA splitter on the PC (assuming it's not a laptop) that way you are only using one output.

we come across this problem on a regular basis, just work on the basis that you will only get it to work on the primary display.

Dont even think about trying to explain to a teacher why it works the way it does, because you WILL be there all day and at the end of it all they will look at you blankly and ask 'so it wont work then!'
