yes it runs ok with cscript within a command prompt ( though only admin users can get to cmd prompt)

yes same gpo - only 2 in use - default doman and "all" checked event viewer on workstation...... errors 1085 and 1000..... client side folder redirection failed ( there is no redirection policy/setting) and could not execute the script.

no i think the script runs ok..........it does for admin and the exact same setup but with a different profile worked ok .

it seems not i can place a copy of the vbs logon script onto a hard disk of a computer and still it will not run for a non admin

thanks but problems seems certain to do with vsb and wscript. the script sets printer, shared drive and IE homepage when logged on as domain user.... message box appears........"failed to load settingd...........access denied" linked to wscript........... when logged on as d.admin........no problems

2000 serve, xp clients, ie 7 new profile share needed on server for new man profiles........all ok.......however old vbs logon script only runs for domain admin... checked wscript permissions and reg........changes make no difference.........all worked ok before new profile........... gpo loads ok.............any help appreciated!

setup: small international school with w2k server, win 2 k workstations ans office 2002. Now in process of upgrading to windows 2003, xp with IE 7 and office 2003. SOme workstaions have been upgraded but not server. 2 issues 1. IE anti phising options box loads at logon.........can be stopped by a group policy in windows 2003? 2. i believe the windows 2k server is not a " genuine windows application" so to speak. The new windows 2003 server cd is a legitimate cd but will it allow an upgrade from the 2k os? thanks

thanks all. i will check all these things out tomorrow. the snag is i work in a school in moscow, and whislt the card is a nvidia all the instructions and menu ots are in russian.!

usual setup = mitsubishi data projector (celing mounted) connected to windows2000 pc. when i try to show windows media clips from bbc ( or any streamind source) the clip plays on the screen ok but the clip does not display on the IWb. sound is ok. And the wm menus and title bar still appear. any ideas. also how do you clean the filters on the projector? thanks

thank you all for your comments. you do not understand the complexities of school admin in russia!! i will use one of the exist pc as a linux box with smoothwall.

i understand the need for a hardware firewall (old pc) but this is a profit making organisation and i am already short of computers.

small private school in eastern europe. setup - 20 w2k workstations, w2k server. Server acts as dns, adsl modem coonect to router/4port switch ( router acta as dhcp server). No firewal, no proxy, no caching, no monitoring. No money for anything! Apply firewall rules on router? firewall ( e.g. zonealarm on pc's? Anything else that can ve done?

HI. i have just taken charge of a small windows 2000 server, 2000 workstation network.Tried to set up a few domain Gpo's then discovered that the default doin gpo was in the recylce bin! recovered it. but now get error message when i try to edit it " cannot access gpt.ini" Further complication...the old gpo took away the "run" option from the start menu. How can i get to command line?

everything was off the network - do not even think the network cable was plugged in.

thank you for answers so far........ i forgot to mention that office 2003 is installed directly onto to the C drive of each computer, and does not setup from a network share.

problem - except for enterprise admin who has only default gpo anytime someone opens an office 2003 file on a xp computer a mini installation of the program begins, then the user has to go back to the file and double click it again to open it. So what we have is users having to double - double click a document to open it. Only happens with xp and 2003 - xp and office 2000 are ok. have changed th gpo to set "windows installer service" (i believe this the source of the problem) to manual, disabled or for non managed aps etc. but no option seems to work how do i stop the double- double clicking? thanks

yes they are reasonably high spec - and run xp ok. do not want to go down the thin client route

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR REPLIES These are DELL OPTIPLex 150 stations purchased in 2001. No money to replace broken parts or buy additional software. I will use the advice given to work out a plan to do this.

ghost 9 - i think i am at home now...

problem: got to upgrade 100 NT 4 stations ( 4 rooms of identical hardware ) to XP pro......... however most of the stations have broken cd drives and/or floppy drives and non pxe network cards. Have ghost and drive centre deploy. ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO APPROACH THIS?
