It's that time again!

 

As many of you know, each year the Internet must be shut down for 24 hours in order to allow us to clean it. The cleaning process, which

eliminates dead email and inactive ftp, www and gopher sites, allows for a better-working and faster Internet.

 

This year, the cleaning process will take place from 07:00 a.m. GMT on

Apr. 2st until 07:00 a.m. GMT on April 3st. During that 24-hour period, five powerful Internet-crawling robots situated around the world will search the Internet and delete any data that they find.

 

In order to protect your valuable data from deletion we ask that you do the following:

 

1. Disconnect all terminals and local area networks from their Internet

connections.

 

2. Shut down all Internet servers, or disconnect them from the Internet.

 

3. Disconnect all disks and hardrives from any connections to the Internet.

 

4. Refrain from connecting any computer to the Internet in any way.

 

We understand the inconvenience that this may cause some Internet

users, and we apologize. However, we are certain that any

inconveniences will be more than made up for by the increased speed and efficiency of the Internet, once it has been cleared of electronic flotsam and jetsam. We thank you for your cooperation.

just been around and stuck the voice command notices on the majority of our copiers and printers

 

Looked into this before and I believe they don't have the PJL stuff onboard so you can't force messages sadly. Everything above them (range wise) does though.

 

I'm impressed by some of the commitment here!

Unfortunately we have broken up otherwise I'd be in there with that copier notice too.

• Done the voice command on the photocopier
  
• Changed the liquid soap with yoghurt (with the assistance of the site agent)
  
• Redirected EVERY http:// request to a page that says the internet is down for maintenance
  
• Sent a message to the head (looking VERY official) saying that Google is taking a picture of the school from above to update Google earth and the kids should stand in a way that spells a word that is important to the school
  
• Changed all of the backgrounds to a generated BSOD and hidden the icons and start bar via GPO
  
• And set the projector images to be upside down back to front
  

 

Muahahahahaha

This was ALL done last night whilst the school production was on.

 

I also have now had 3 people saying they cant get the photocopier to understand their voice / its not working with the voice. I told them to speak SLOW, LOUD and CLEAR so that it can understand the request. If after 5 minutes it hasn't done anything, use it the old way.

log into your NED Dashboard, use the advanced options to set the page you want to redirect to instead of the standard block page to being a local server hosted one ..

 

Then, set up a webfilter for * (i.e. it will block everything .. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT GO THROUGH THE CLEO BOX YOURSELF ELSE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT THIS BACK AND YOUR AF WILL BACKFIRE!!)

 

Then sit back and watch EVERY request be sent to the internet is down page, or whatever you choose to do .. lol ..

But it was funny to watch one member of staff as she was boasting she could still get the internet, so a quick press of a button soon sorted that one out .. lol ..

you could always prepare a letter for staff to give to students saying that new logon procedures require students to have a barcode tattooed on their arm and then install any old barcode readers on whatever pcs you can
