HP Proliant DL360 G6 server

Ok I have recently purchased a shiny new HP Proliant DL360 G6 server. It's running fine and working well.

One of the reasons I bought this G6 server wasn't because it was the latest but because it has 'on board' 10Gb network cards. This ties in nicley with the 10Gb backbone I'm building.

Anyway, these two 10Gb network cards have RJ45 connectors (same as most cards) but I can't find any 10Gb swithches that have an RJ45 connection. I use Procurve switches as a rule and I have the 2900 series switchwes working well in some locations, but these take a fibre module that runs at 10Gb, and RJ45 slots that run at 1Gb.

 

Anyone know how to get a 10Gb RJ45 connector into a 10Gb switch ?

Are you sure these are RJ45 ports at the server end?

 

IIRC, the NICs on the DL360 G6 come with SFP+ sockets as standard... if this is the case, you'd only need the DAC cable (sfp+ connectors at both ends)

Are you sure you're thinking of the DL360 G6, that server doesn't have 10gb just twin 1gb.

... and the only two HP add-in cards for the DL360 G6 have SFP ports, which is why I'm thinking either the server is wrong or they aren't 10GB ports.

The OP said on-board, so I discounted an additional card.

I have 3x DL360 G6's in boxes and I don't think they have 10GBe on-board, HP parts list, as has been shown, a 10Gbe NIC as an add-on, but if they are 10GBe copper then wow I have got a bargain but I suspect not.

 

I will be opening the babys tomorrow and adding my extra goodies AKA extra CPU to them and ram by the tonne So will see then.
