Fuj Amilo Pro and DLink AP dont see each other

I have just taken delivery of 2 Fujitsu Amilo pro with ralink RT2500 Wireless Lan Card (hmmmmmm).

 

They refuse to see my Dlink APs at all. I have turned off the firewall etc but nothing. I have installed netstumbler and still not even a hint of an AP.

Im gonna go wonder accross the building now to the only 3 com AP we have to see if it's just Dlink or not.

 

Any ideas?

Cant see the 3 com either hmmmm. Will try an updated driver if available.

Pfft it's using the latest drivers and two identical identical laptops wont even see each other peer to peer................

This may be obvious, but is the wireless chipset actually switched on? Most laptops have a way of turning off the inbuilt wireless card to save battery life.

To add to eduabncs comment, the toshiba and dell laptops we have here have inbuilt wifi, if they have their physical switches turned to the off position, they are still there in the OS, but act like they cant see any networks, you might want to check there is no physical switch located (or a fn/fkey combo to enable wifi like i have on the dell D610s).

They have no physical switch like the toshes and it does seem like they are turned on but maybe not I bet it's some fn combination now you mention it will check tommorow.

I'll check our Amilo laptop later on today when it returns from classroom abuse. I'm sure there is a specific way of turning the WiFi on.

I found the button it's next to all the usual Internet shortcut rubbish. I didnt look too hard there as they usually are just email shortcuts and stuff .

It still didnt work mind. I had to get rid of the silly client manager and now all is well . Ty all.

Heheh, yep. That's where I thought it was, but I haven't seen the laptop in a while so couldn't have said straight off.

 

For info, if anyone does have any problems with Fujitsu kit that they can't solve drop me a PM or post here & I'll ask one of our Fujitsu engineers. (We pay the company stupid amounts so we may as well use them!)

Cheers I shall bear that in mind as we are getting more Fujitsu gear soon I think.
