glennda Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 have been for the last 3 weeks!! all the kids have been making videos with a teacher that doesn't know video editing, so guess which mug had to sort all that out... but luckily the stuff tomorrow is being done by the music tech teacher

denon101 Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Yup we are doing it too. This will be our third time, I have been involved in the project from the start. Myself and the ICT Co-ord are doing it wth 12 year 8 pupils. Every year it gets easier. The first year was a disaster!! lol. As said before it really is good experience for the kids. But can be somewhat stressfull especially when the kids realise they are running out of time to get the broadcast completed. Still, as someone said to me today "you would just be bored if you were not involved!!" There was some grating of teeth and icy stares!!

We did video and text. I don't think the media teacher thought of mp3-ing some of the articles. Still the site looks excellent. GJE
glennda Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 The site is fully maintained by the student's and the music tech teacher and they broadcast 3 days a week during lunch and breaks, we don't have any input at all apart from occasionally fixing there pc's - they did some video but was all done during english lessons with rather rubbish camera's! we have a recording studio/hut hence why the MP3 recordings where done as they invited teachers into the studio to discuss the stuff (so i believe!)

What didn't help was our D-Link media studies nas "lost" an entire partition so most of our preparation was wiped out. There wasn't enough time to recover the data as the some of the sudents were working on the other partition. So myself and the team of year13 prefects were editing on Premiere Pro all day under the instruction of year 7's. It was good for the media prefects as it showed them what working to a real production deadline is like! Our NM was still uploading content when I left at 5pm.

As always we had a nightmare getting it set up, but it all worked okay at broadcast time!! The unfortunate thing was only 3 teachers 'tuned' in with their classes to watch it, those in for early lunch had no choice as we showed it in our canteen as well - that got the viewing figures up! Good experince for the kids, and good experience for us to!!

joe90bass Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Hi Gareth, Easy enough, I had the how to from here last year when we wanted to broadcast our official opening. We use Windows Media Encoder on a PC and then send it to a server running Media Services. I used a cheap Genius Mic for the audio and a bog standard video camera into a wintv card for the video. I'm in Maesteg, not too far from you if you wanted a look? Joe

We're the new PFI school, the Welsh school (Ysgol Gyfun Llangynwyd) is our old upper school site. The head there is very IT literate so you could well be right about him!

We have so far sent out 25GB of data out from our website and 5633 page views. The whole school tuned in at 2:30pm to watch it. Going to add some pictures that a 6th former took tomorrow. Have to say we wouldn't have been able to do it without Joe at CPLTD helping us out with some equipment. Joe lent us some hand held video cameras, pretty sure Simon can put a link on at some point, (I'm at home and can't remember the model number) They provided some really good quality video. Gareth Hmm, we got told by our contact at the bbc that youtube was not allowed to be used for this purpose thats how we ended up with filmsforlearning.org which the BBC recommended to use.
