FunkMaster_J Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Having real fun with this one lol ... Got a PC with a standard build we use across the site. Staff want to play a DVD on this PC, but the sound is constantly crackling on this particular DVD. I thought it could be the DVD disc itself, but it plays no problem in other PC's (again, with the same build, hardware etc) ... so that rules out the disc itself. Also tried another DVD written with the same software, and the same make of disc, and that works fine. Any suggestions ? Tried methods ... Uninstall the IDE Channels from Dev Manager, and checked they're set to DMA. Uninstalled/reinstalled audio drivers Tried codec packs ... even though on other PC's that don't have the codec packs, this DVD works fine. Tried using PowerDVD and VLC (aswell as Windows Media Player). Tried another audio port on the PC. ... all of the above have made no difference what-so-ever. Even tried plugging my phone into the speakers, and that played fine.

Domino Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Sounds like a buffer overrun error - maybe it has to transcode the sound from that particular DVD's encoding method? Do you have a different soundcard you could try?
FunkMaster_J Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Unfortunately not, most/all our soundcards are on-board. If it was the disc, wouldn't it do the same thing on an indentical spec'd PC ?
Domino Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Not for sure. Maybe there's an issue with the sound module on that board - but one which doesn't completely destroy it? These kind of things can be tricky beasts, depends on how its decided it wants to be using the swap/memory on that machine. Might be worth running Memtest86 across it too, maybe ram could be the culprit too.
