User1 has Adobe Reader X installed, fully up to date. User2 has Adobe Acrobat X installed, also fully up to date. If User2 creates a PDF (either using Word 2010 or Acrobat) and sends it to User1, User1 will see additional annotation tools such as underline, record audio, stamp etc. aswell as the drawing markups toolbar. This happens desipte the relevant options being disabled. If User1 creates a PDF (using Word 2010), the PDF won't show the additional annotation tools or drawing markups toolbar for User1, but will for User2. If User2 creates a PDF (again, in Word or Acrobat) and sends to User1 for annotation, then User1 sends back the PDF with the annotations to User2 who opens the PDF in Adobe Reader, the annotation tools and drawing markups toolbar don't appear, but do if User2 opens the PDF in Acrobat. I really hope that makes sense.

Bit of an odd one ... A member of staff's Outlook is converting the subject line on emails to Greek (or at least part of the subject line) to Greek text. The body of the email, and every email within the inbox is fine. Just the subject line is changed. We've had a quick look on ole faithful (Google), and have yet to find anyone mentioning a different language for the subject line. An example from an out of office reply: "Αυτόματη απάντηση: hello" This suggests the sent message was in plain text, as it should, but the returned subject has been changed.

I think it's getting too close Friday ... I can't find Format (or anything relating to Change Case) in Word 2010 :S The caller is more after a solution that she can do herself ... meaning VBA or any code writting is straight out the window.

Hi all, Apparently, many versions ago, Excel had the function to change a highlighted cell to lower/upper/proper case text. I've only known Excel to change text case via a formula/macro, but you need a source cell and a destination cell. The caller is adament the function to change the text case without a formula is still in Excel and wants us to find the 'button'. I was wondering if there actually is (or ever has been) a function do change text case? As the caller doesn't want to sift through this large spreadsheet finding the particular cells that need changing text case.

Is there a way to change (globally) settings for the way files are displayed etc within the 'Files' folder for each course within Moodle? The problem we've discovered is when files are added individually to a Moodle course, they open fine (the files give the usuall Open, Save, Cancel box). If, however, a link is created to a folder within the 'Files' section, then a pop-up appears before the Open, Save etc. This is randomly creating problems as (I think) IE is blocking the pop-up and therefore not opening the file. Another problem with XLS files, is a login appears within the XLS file instead of the data that should be there.

Hi all, We have a Windows 7 machine setup as a display (it's connected to a plasma TV). For some reason, the power plan keeps resetting to default settings even though no-one can use the PC (there's no keyboard or mouse, we remote into it) and it's never turned off. At first, I tried to set the the time-out settings to "never" as we don't want the monitor or the PC going to sleep, but the monitor setting kept going back to 20mins. So I tried creating a custom power plan, and now the PC goes back to the default plan. I can't see why this is happening, the account the PC is logged in with has admin rights (to the PC) and its a tad annoying as the PC is used for a welcome theme'd display but turns off every 20mins.

If I go to the 'print' box in Excel, it makes the connection to a printer ... but until that point Excel assumes there's no printer installed. Sometimes if I go to the 'page setup' dialog, it says there's no printers installed, but then gives a pop-up box with the currently installed printers from which I can choose.

Hi all, For some reason Excel doesn't seem to connect to the currently installed printer, therefore won't give options to change paper size etc. Not sure if this is adding to the problem, but even though there is a printer installed, it's not always set as default ... in fact, no printer is set as default despite there being printers installed. I would assume as there is no default, then Excel can't display/change the page settings ... but no other Office application does this, even without a default printer set, Word etc just grab a printer from the installed printer list. I've had a Google, but can't find an answer to why there's no default printer or why Excel's workings differ from Word etc.

Major apologies for not replying to this. Tried pressing the usual F keys that would cause the BIOS to kick in, but the usual thing that happens is the laptop restarts. We tried flashing the BIOS in Windows too, and that had no effect. The laptops have been sent off to Toshiba, and they claim that it's our software that breaks the BIOS :S ... so (after some Googling) I found lots of other home users have had the same problem after setting a Supervisor password for the BIOS. So I tried setting the Supervisor password on a laptop that had not been imaged ... and it stopped the BIOS from being accessible! I do believe thats a fault of Toshiba? There's a utility that comes with the Toshiba laptops that can access/change the supervisor password. After having a fiddle with that, the laptop starts up fine and can get into the BIOS Damned Toshiba! They wanted to charge us to get our laptops back that are broken because of them :S

Hi all, Trying to add a quiz on Moodle which works ok when adding a new question, but when I go to add a second question I get a 500 error. This doesn't happen if I go to Update Quiz after every question I add which is a bit of a pain to do for every question. We've got a load (15) of Toshiba laptops that have been imaged using the Acronis True Image software, and all (pretty much) no longer have accessible BIOS'. Not experienced this before (used Acronis for a few years), we set all the laptops to image in one go. After the image was applied we then went to setup BitLocker only to find it wouldn't run. Assuming it could be that BitLocker couldn't change the TPM status, we tried to get into the BIOS which is where we got stuck. Pressing F2 on boot, the laptop will just restart at the point when the BIOS should display. We've tried updating the BIOS, also no luck, and tried a Windows program to read the BIOS, but it returned with unreadable characters (basically, it didn't read the BIOS). One laptop has been sent back as we thought it was the laptop that was broken (it had the same problem as we have now), and it's motherboard had to be replaced. Not entirely sure how imaging a drive can effect the BIOS this way, we even set a password on the BIOS to see if that stopped it from happening. As far as using the laptop once Windows has started, its absolutely fine. Nothing wrong. Anyone with an idea?

Is there a way to speed up/stop the Office 2010 programs from connecting to a networked printer without going to the 'print' menu? I've read that the programs get the page setup options (such as margins etc) from the printer driver which, in our case, are all networked. At the moment, when a user goes to change the page setup, all the options are greyed out, and cannot be changed (despite a printer being installed). The only way to get the options to show up is to go to the File > Print menu within the program. Here, the message "connecting to printer" changes to "ready". After this has happened, the page setup can then be changed. I would assume the programs would try to connect to the printer as the program starts up, not before you would go to print something out? The only way I can think of (other than installing a local printer) is to add a macro that runs on start up, to force the connection ... not sure if thats possible?

Am taking a look at a Toshiba laptop for a friend of a friend, and I think it's dead as a dead thing. By the sounds of things, it hasn't worked for a while (not sure why they waited till now to get it looked at). Basically, the battery doesn't charge, and I've discovered the laptop won't turn on running on mains (with no battery plugged in). The owner said she's tried another charger, but that made no difference. I think the main give away that it's the pin inside the charging port in the laptop is that when the mains lead is plugged in, the plug itself is bent at an angle as opposed to straight from the laptop. I've tried wiggling the cable to see if the power/charge light comes on (until this point it hasn't), but no joy. The cable seems to be able to move about 5mm in any direction. I'm not sure on the age of the laptop, but there's a big Vista sticker on it, so at a wild guess it's over a year old. Think it's time for a new motherboard, or new laptop :S

Ah, sorry, forgot that bit ... oops. RA worked a treat (most of the time) when my machine was Win7 and theirs was XP. Now they're both Win7, and getting this problem.

Hi all, We're rolling out Windows 7 to the PC's on site, and I've just used Remote Assistance to help out another member of staff for the first time (until now its been using RA on a XP machine). The problem I found is that when I needed to run a program or task "As an Administrator", the Remote Assistance window (from my end) would go blank, but the other user would see the usuall login box for an admin to enter the account details. Has anyone else had this? Or is there a work around? Ta.

Hi all, I'm after a free-standing interactive voting board. It's basically a board (probably about the size of a A2 sheet of paper) that can have several 'buttons' to record public votes, so people passing by can press yes or no to a question. The votes are stored or sent to another location (I've seen a board that can send the results via GPRS). I'm going through good ole Google, but so far the results are giving equipment similar to Quizdom, or voting systems that require remotes.

Hi all, Having a play with WAIK and WinPE, and (going through a guide) it was recomended to use gImageX to help with the imaging process. Unfortunately, I'm unable to find any guides or documentation, to say what does what within the UI. There are several options within the 'capture' tab that I'm unsure of, and don't really want to commit to anything just yet hehe. Anyone had any experience with this program ? Thanks.

We have a rare (but none-the-less, re-occuring) problem with Word (and sometimes Publisher, but nowhere near as often). For some reason when working on Word, a user goes to click on the 'Save' button, nothing happens. Same goes for clicking on 'Save As ...'. Absolutely nothing happens. Clicking on the save to PDF/XPS button does, however, give the save dialog box, but only to save as PDF/XPS (as it should). The fix for this is (so far), is to get the user to logout of the PC, then log back in. This is ok as long as the user has basic text, tables and pictures on the document, as the work can be copied out of Word and into Wordpad (it's just Word that has this problem, no other program does). Unfortunately, due to the type of user account that is most used, we can't look at any system/reg settings because of restrictions, and logging the user out for one of us to log in fixes the problem anyway. In a way this wouldn't be as bad if user's saved their work as soon as they create the documents ... but 90% of the time, the user has done "hours of work" only to find they cannot save.

Unfortunately not, most/all our soundcards are on-board. If it was the disc, wouldn't it do the same thing on an indentical spec'd PC ?

Anyone out there with an idea? Still no luck with this particular PC
