nicholab Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Thinking of getting a ML110 G5 so I can run ESXi at home to do some testing and development? Any thoughts ?
Theblacksheep Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 good pc for it. ml115 here. only 4gb ram at the moment mind.
ranj Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 you dont need to buy a server you could buy a laptop or desktop and as long as the processor supports virtualisation technology you could use something like VMware workstation to run ESXi as well as other virtual machines to do testing and development. If you primarily want to run esxi on one box then the HP server would be ideal for that.
DMcCoy Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 I picked the ML115 instead, mostly because it's a quad core. Both have good esxi hardware compatibility.
ServersPlus Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Just be careful if you're looking at the ML110 - The cheapest version at the moment only has a pentium dual-core CPU that doesn't support Intel-VT The best option is the quad-core ML115 ... It's only slightly more expensive but has a quad-core AMD chip which does AMD-V (if you enable it in BIOS first) Very highly recommended boxes for ESXi testbeds - we sell loads for this purpose.
contink Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 ML115 here too... very simple to use out of the box...
jamin100 Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 what about this with some more RAM? Dell Vostro 430, Core i7-860 (quad core), 3Gb DDR3 RAM, 500GB HD, 512MB ATI Radeon HD 4350, Windows 7 Professional £439.45 (possible £399.01 with topcashback)
