ML115 server or above

I am looking at the ML115, but might be able to squeeze a few more quid off the boss.

 

Does anyone recommend any other options or should i stick with this highly recommended model?

I would say that the the ML115 is a great entry level server , we have sold hundreds of them but I would recomend something a little more beafer for a Domain Controller mabye the ML350 G6 which you can pickup for less than a grand , give me a shout if you would like a quote;)

Domain controllers do very little heavy work - the requirement is availability. They can be downright anemic provided there's data (and ideally power) redundancy.

 

(Our 3 dcs have an average 2-5% processor use and consume under 512MB ram each)

I would think for a secondary DC in many school networks the ML115 is perfectly sized. I know of a couple of schools that run everything on them (obviously a few of them not just one!), as has been said DCs loads are not high they do need to be there and ready to work when needed.

I think Simon was hinting at, how do I put it, the ML350 is more stable, which is key for a DC. Before people start saying the ML115 is stable. If you look at the hardware, the ML115 is more desktop-class then server-class, unlike the ML115. Anyway, my 2p.

The ML115s have been built on Serveworks chipsets as have the 3 series, they are less powered and functional though but what do you expect for a server costing £159? (and yes that does mean they are on the £150 area again!)
