longrange cordless phones

im trying to see if i can find a longrange cordless phone, if it exists at all, preferably with two hansdets and the abuility to connect anywere in the school, bit of a long ask i know.

 

i used to use something similar a few years back, i just cant remember who made them. (cross between a dect phone and a mobile phone)

BT do something but it involves having repeaters around the school.

Only systems I know of, after researching this sort of thing for ourselves, were:

 

1. Using a voip phone over wifi, with wifi coverage over the entire site (http://www.voipon.co.uk/hitachi-wireless-ip-3000-p-263.html)

2. Using a hybrid phone which uses DECT or Wifi when in range, or standard GSM when out of that range (http://www.voipon.co.uk/hitachi-dmp330-dmp330-dual-mode-handset-p-808.html)

3. Using a dect phone with dect antennae all over the site. (http://www.voipon.co.uk/siemens-gigaset-a580ip-p-1010.html)

 

I don't think you'll get a phone which can do long range internal only phone, as the transmit power needed would exceed legal limits. I've given a couple of examples.

At a place we used to work we had a base station then 2 or 3 handsets that had intependant chargers, we then placed the base station somewhere central ish (secure with a phone point of course) on the site. We got pretty good coverage from it, it's not an ideal solution but it ddn't break the bank . Might not work on a large site though.

what about this Dect repeater

Not sure how it works but when i worked at ASDA while i was at college, they had a cordless phone system that would work anywhere on the shop floor.

 

Kind of bigger and bulkier than a normal cordless phone and it was made by BT. Every department had one.

Supermarkets often use Dect repeaters and Managed Wifi across their sites - Motorola/Symbol being one of the main providers for that market.

thats similar to what i used befor tho it wasnt a bt handset.

voip isnt an option at the moment, hasnt been set up yet, on my todo list for the next few years when the tanoy system starts to fail.

 

i think i have a spare dect phone at home somewhere, ill try that and see how far i get, try to rangle a bit of money for a few repeaters maby.
