School Guardian - Filtering pornography blocks most news sites!

Getting to grips with School Guardian while the kids are on half-term.

 

I have noticed though, that if I choose to filter using the pornography checkbox, then it blocks access to The Guardian website, BBC News and a number of other news websites.

 

Do I really have to go hunting for all the news websites and create and allow option for them... I wouldn't have said the bbc news website was exactly full of porn!

You shouldn't have to. Is the "Reduce overblocking" filter enabled? And are news sites ticked?

 

There are a few times when the combinations of phrases in a particular collection of news stories on the front page will trip the proxy anyway (collection of death, violence, mayhem, love affairs).

Nile is looking at this. Seems we have a bad news day - lots of mentions of dodgy things which makes Guardian suspicious We are working on longer-term tweaks to the overall algorithm which will be released in a software update this year. That should make it less twitchy. Meanwhile, you can whitelist any news sites you know are in common usage and are generally not going to offend. Whitelisting the whole "news" category is another possibility, though thats a bit more severe.

 

On our side, we will: a) hope for better news, and b) look at tweaking some of the rules

Ah.... I had the Reduce Overblocking filter applied, but hadn't realised I needed to tick boxes in that filter!
