No plan to currently. Any new hardware coming with Vista will be downgraded to XP.

Do you believe that XP will be classed as "downgrade software" in the same vein as Windows 98 SE is in that provided quote when a system comes with Vista?

..and it says "support" will not be provided for the downgraded software product used in lieu of XP Pro. Makes sense to me. If you want to use XP Pro rather than Vista (if the EULA is the same) then you can- the deal will be how long MS support XP after Vista is released. And that in turn will depend on how much software with the Vista label M$ sell when it is released.

You get a person with ME you send them to pc world to buy an upgrade of xp as soon as you see the me bootup screen.

So- are we saying that it would *illegal* to downgrade a machine that comes preloaded with Vista to XP Pro? Is there any hard evidence from a Vista EULA that says this or anything we can read that is authoritative?

Either:

 

a) built from parts inhouse so nothing on them.

b) preloaded with an image provided to the manufacturer by me/LEA/etc

c) FreeDos.

 

Worse case senario is that we buy them with XP Home on (or it's vista equivelent).

How misinformed you are if it is Apple products you're "joking" about. I wouldn't mind the laugh if it were based on fact. We run OS X on a G3 and G4 as well as G5 and now Intel Macs. We never have to buy Apple's superior design in hardware when they udate their OS.

 

We simply want to.

 

And the price argument is plain dumb.

It works very well on the core and core2 apples we get a rating of 4 on the mac book pro core. I wish I could have waited to upgrade my laptop to a mac book / pro. Oh well will have to work out who I can palm my dell off to.

Don't plan to deploy vista till at least 2008 - allows me to fully test it first with GPO's in Win2k3 R2, along with software support.

 

Also gives a chance for the inevitable SP1 to be released

I find changing the XP theme does that all by itself. I use Windows classic (much faster than luna) on my profile, and some kid asked why I was using Windows 98

I had the librarian ask me that when I altered her profile to be a bit faster and have more local admin rights (for her library software).

Yea no plans to impliment Vista until "Vista server" rolls out and has some realworld benefit to running it over 2k3 etc. Then I'll do the whole lot hopefully by then enough of the school with have built up a familiarity with it at home.

 

And as for windows classic. I get that all the time here too. Pupil mandatory profile has the blue and green theme, teachers get silver and green and Admin accounts get windows classic. Easy to see whats logged on where when you glance ina door.

What's the matter with you guys? Vista is out on Jan 31st, and we need to be deploying it on Feb 1st. Have you seen the new deployment stuff? Maaaaaan! No more Ghost, no more MSIs, no more different images for different machines, gazillions of new group policies to make locking down machines much more flexible.

(BTW, we're on that license that allows us to use the latest version of Ms products on their release "software assurance" I think it's called, - I know that that is not applicable to a lot of schools)
