laserblazer Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 He's coming home from Korea for a holiday at the end of the month and plans to get a new laptop whilst he's here. This is his spec. Basically, I was hoping to spend between 300 - 400gbp, and I would really only need it for internet, document writing (office), watching movies and hopefully playing the latest football manager game (what used to be championship manager!!) I wouldn't have thought the football manager game was particularly demanding on the graphics but I'd welcome any recommendations. I was planning to put Open Office on it.

I could be totally wrong but from experience WOW and EVE are very hardware orientated (to get decent gameplay / FPS etc) but something like a football manager isnt as bad as the FPS isnt as dependant. I am sure someone will correct me if i am wrong. The game itself will have the minimum spec requirements on the box anyway so maybe find out what they are and go from there? 1

Asus part number is K50IJ-SX138V From scanning what's available it seems to have the most bang for your buck and at least you are giving some leeway in terms of what it can do a couple of years hence?

Minimum spec is a good idea - some of the latter football manager games have modes where you can play the game yourself. This will obviously bump up the graphics. As for WOW and EVE - I wouldn't consider either of these to be demanding. Turn the effects off and they'll run on pretty much anything. I've had both on an MX440 64mb card before (at the same time, but that's another matter). It's the newer FPS / racing games that tax graphics. Laptop wise I'd be looking at something with a discreate ATi/nVidia card. I'll have a hunt later if I get the chance. RwD
